Title: LED replacements for dash buttons
Post by: The Barge Captain on 09 November 2006, 09:40:54
Does anybody know where to source miniture LED's for fixing into the dash buttons - i.e the yellow one on my eco button has failed, and it's very small. Also they need to be 12v rated as no room to add a current limiting resistor. I'm not looking for a blue conversion but these things must be avalible as i keep seeing them on ebay. Tried Maplin electronics website but couldn't find what i wanted.

I have swapped my switches for LED ones bought off ebay and they all have resistors in them

If you're keeping the same colours, why not just change the bulb, rather than faff around with LEDs and resistors?

The lamps in the small push switches are very small solder in type, and don't look like anything avalible in either Maplin or my local car parts shop, and i doubt that they are avalible from Vx without buying a whole new switch - unless anyone knows differently.

You could try http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/.

I have used them in the past and found them to be very good.  Not sure if they will have exactly what you are looking for though.

One advantage of the LED of the standard bulb, is that the switch will not get hot when the function is switched on.  I generally drive round with climate on ECO and have found that the surface of the switch gets very hot.

Anyway, good luck.  Hope this helps.

Ordinary Vaux dash bulbs will fit, just bend the legs out from the side of the glass envelope.

some are smaller than that, however i've just tried to replace the lamp in the sunroof control and that one has a short narrow body with 2 long wire legs - looks as though that could be what i am looking for - just solder in place and cut the legs off

Where in Bristol are you  Captain? I've got a few various dash switches (the rubber coated ones) that the front has scratched off, your welcome to the bulbs from them to save messing around with the soldering iron.
