Title: new headlights wanted advice please
Post by: infinity1 on 15 November 2006, 21:07:51
hi all,as you all know the standard pre facelift headlights are frankly dire, so after buying some used projector lights of a fellow member off of here, imagine my glee when they turned up,now imagine my temper when the both appear to be broken, both internal adjusters have shattered, possibly beyond repair?the previous owner says they were fine when he sent them! even though on opening on of them up(the worst rattling one) the araldite is evident....
now he wont return my money(£90) or answer any pm's i have sent him..  >:((you know who you are),so the time has come(been waiting since early sept!!) for a new set preferably brand new,no which road do i go down chaps, brand new projector lights vary wildly in price,i have found them from £50 each (ebay) to over £150 each (main dealer!!)
So which is the best way to go?????,unless i should just invest in some heavy duty bulbs and give the headlight a good clean? any ideas on how to remove that strange milky film to make them at least a little brighter???
Ideas please chaps as the cash is burning a hole in the proverbial. :y

I put brighter bulbs in mine & they're much better although not great, I'll be T-cutting the lens this w/e too.
Steer clear of the fancy blue bulbs though, if anything they're worse.

Is the strange milky film on the inside or outside of the lens?

I swapped my standard units for Osram Silver Stars for the dipped beam - changed cast yellow light to a brighter white light - not as good as halogens though.

Infinity1 if your interested in rebuilding them I maybe able to help.

I managed to recase a set of projector headlights using the cases from an old set of reflector lights including the adjusters, granted they needed a little modifying but they work fine, I even fitted them for the MOT a few days before and they sailed through.

PM me if you would like any advice on the repair, I could even do you a write for reshelling. :y

Didn't Mr McBurger do a how-to on a site far, far away, on how to fix up broken adjusters.
Drop him a Pm and see.

It seems a shame whats happened but I'm sure with abit of time spent he could fix them, saving him spending out on a new set again.

Just my tuppence worth :)
