Evening all
Did cambelt kit and water pump today on my 2.2 petrol and on removing the plastic housing that guides the loom across the front of the engine ( right at the top of the cambelt cover), i noticed the plastic had rubbed through the loom tape and through the insulation on one wire right where the loom exits the left hand end of the plastic guide and turns 90 degrees (see pic). 2 minutes with the dremel removed a bit of the plastic housing and there is now clearance all round the loo where it exits. If this had rubbed right through some wires it would have been a pig to trace whatever faults it caused........might be worth checking for all you with a similar engine.

With all the wax polish on your engine there wont be enough friction to damage the loom. ;)

No wax or silicone on my engine, just elbow grease...... ;)
By the way, the loom is not chaffing.

I have the 2.2, and have just done the same cam belt, tensioner and pump. My loom isn't chafing there. Mine is well secured down with tie wraps in that area so no rubbing is possible.
Good job done there though :)

Yeah cheers :y Will have to check mine......the plastic lid on mine is held on with cable ties......thats the prob with me and diy.......plastic clips have a habit of snapping off :-[

I know exactly what you mean! Mine is held on with tie wraps now also after I snapped mine off :-[ I will post a photo of the same area on mine, to compare notes ::) Most plastic clips on modern cars are one time anyway. They are not designed to be removed. More money for the stealers.

Mine too was cable tied together but they are just as effective as the origional clips.Why the areas where the loom goes in and out aren't rounded i don't know....probably cheaper to produce a sharp edge!!
