Any Ideas?
It is only when I am giving it some, slow corners are ok

Check if wife present in passenger seat. If she is, remove her and the whine should stop.

Normally a whine of some description on corners is associated with worn wheel bearings. Does the noise get louder with speed?? And could it be described as a drone rather than a whine??.
Is the noise coming from the front or the rear??
To check the bearings (and i'd put money on it being the front N/S) jack the car up so the wheel's off the ground, spin the wheel and put your hand on the road spring...if the bearing is worn you'll be able to feel it through the spring (and also listen for noise,if its ok it should be quiet)
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Was going to say...I had this fault in my GT Turbo whilst 'country laning',but only ever occured when the wife was with me!!!
That noise got louder the faster I went round corners as well ;D ;D

;D...wifes, thats a bit specific sounds more like women :y
Seriously sounds like it is bearing related :-/

I'd agree, classic worn wheel bearing symptoms :( When you have the car jacked up, check for play by grasping the wheel at both sides and rocking. On some cars, you can tighten the bearing a bit if it's just worked loose, not sure if this applies to the Omega though??

The bearing and hub are a sealed unit. No adjustment. Easy to replace, but around £80-100.

Thanks for all the advice.
I will check it this week and then if required I will write a letter asking Santa for a wheel bearing for Christmas

... and you need a 100ft long bar to undo the nut, and a similar-sized torque wrench to put it back on (320NM!)
Also, apparently if you find any play on the wheel, in order to make sure it's the bearing, you should have an assistant apply the brakes and then check again for play - if the play goes a way when the brakes are applied, it's the hub, if the play is still there then it is another suspension component...

whining just on corners, sounds like a wheel bearing under pressure to me...

e-bay link for pattern bearing (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Omega-Carlton-Senator-Front-Wheel-Bearing-Hub_W0QQitemZ180054654903QQihZ008QQcategoryZ10404QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem)
Can be done DIY but scaffolding pole required to extend the breaker bar. The hub nut is as tight as a tight thing. The kits I have used also included a new hub nut as they are supposed to be a 'use once' item.

100ft long bar - no joke. :( I had a 6ft scaffold pole extension, with the help of a vice and two blokes with a combined weight of 30 stone and it still took a can of WD40 & 2 hours to free - and that was on a clit. Best of luck. :y
