Anybody know the best and easiest way to unblock the drain hole underneath the pollen filter housing. I managed to find a nice large reservoir of water up to the bottom of the pollen filter which I have siphoned out. Below this a large amount of accumulated silt covering the rubber bung which I presume is where the water should drain out. Despite a bit of prodding it still appears blocked :'(. Is this rubber bung the top of a tube ? and can it be removed for cleaning ? Any suggestions from others previously afflicted with this problem gratefully received.

Don't know much about the 3.0 but as far as I'm aware, there is a drain tube under the rubber bung.
-
Get your hand in there and, if necessary, take the bung out. Give everything a good clean and rinse it through. IIRC the bung should have a tube attached or as part of it, this should point towards the front of the car when replaced.

Don't attack the 'bung' it is water tight and that is how you want it to be !
The out spout for the water is under the front near side wing, with the road wheel on full right lock look under the wing, you should see a black rubber flap just beteen the spring and the rear of the arch, lift the flap, it will be full of crud, rotting leaves, once cleared check ever month.

Is that on the facelift or pre-facelift?

Earlier cars only, later drain into engine bay...

I attacked my bung! Had to. It was so scummy and yucky in there I couldn't make out what was going on. Seemed to go back OK :o

That reminds me of the bit in Beavis and Butthead do America when he's on about TP for his bunghole!!!
Cracks me up everytime I see it... ;D ;D

Bungholio ;D ;D classic.

I have to confess that when my pollen filter compartment filled up last winter, I was a little naughty and used the car vac at the local Morrisons and drained it with that, then quickly left the scene!!!!
The Car Vac made a rather interesting noise!!!!!

My '99 drains into engine bay. When I bought the car, the bung (it looks more like the scuttle drain really) wasn't even in place. By the time I finnished replacing it, my forearm looked like I'd been self harming :'( And I'm not much bigger than CaptainZok's boy. :D
Hope you're skinny Mark. ;D

So it was you!!! [smiley=angry.gif] Bandit..... ;D Good idea, just check for the CCTV and the number plate reading kit!

I used the pressure washer lance into the bottom of the skuttle, where the bung is.
Then went upstairs to get washed looking like an extra from a Carry On sketch with the backwash all over my coupon :-[ And its smelly..... :o

i just get my hand and arm down there, and clear it out.
Get a hose on jet setting push that down with your hand and guide it so its directly over the blocked hole and turn the hose on... ware wellies though!
Also park up with the wheel on full left lock, get behind the wheel and poke around the exit pipe, i had to do that for my project A... was messy business but got it clear in the end :y

Yes, you just need a Tunnie, every tool kit should have one, just drop it in, give him a small spoon and wait for it to be cleaned out :y.
I actualy use some hefty cable and poke it through the drain and then flush through.

A word of warning for any one thinking of having a poke round with some thing hard and sharp like a long screw driver. Down at the bottom usually under the water, there lives a length of wiring loom. So as your dad use to tell you be careful were you poke. By the way the drain rubber is right angled, it goes down then forward.
Cheers.........Bill :y

No wires in mine Bill but may have changed on facelift. Still good advice to be cautious. :y

I can now confirm that by far the easiest way to clean this is to remove the passenger side head.....access is then very easy.

It'll stop the whining when you go to fast too. :y

Many thanks for the advice. Managed to clear it from the bottom by putting the steering on hard lock to the right for access behind the wheel. Then simply sticking a finger up the rubber shute to release a great mud slide followed very quickly by a litre of freezing cold dirty water straight down the arm and up the sleeve. Still at least its now clear.

Well done on getting it sorted :y

And the key is to keep it clear - every time you open bonnet for weekly (!) oil checks etc, put a cup of water down there....
