I drove to work this morning and thought to myself its been a while since I have heard the fans cut in so I left the car to run and sure enough the temperature slowly went up, the fans kicked in at just about 97 and dropped off to just under 95.
I am quite pleased that when I checked the fans it looked like the one on the rad was going aswell as the one on the condensor, I am guessing this is how it should work.
The car normal running temp is usually about 90 but with stop starts the most I have seen it go is 95
I am no longer getting the coolant leak since the rad change so in all seems ok.
Silly question time
My question is does this sound as though its working as it should.

From what i can remember there are 3 stages of fan cooling on the omega one kicks in at around 97 and the second one at arround 100. The engineer that set it up is a complete idiot in my opinion. THere is so powerfull fan system on the omega and yet it gets wasted. they could have easily made the car have a stable temperature of 92-93 degrees rather than having to climb to rediculus temperatures before the fans cut in.

Sounds about right....

Cheers guys for the responses, sounds as though I am worrying unduely :y

Sounds spot on for a 2.5 V6 m8 :y
My 2.5 project did the same... i was quite worried at first though cause my 2.2 never goes above 85!
Nothing to worry about there though, all spot on.
-
Sounds like the temp I get on mine. Not too sure which fans are running though, but they definitely cool it down.

Only 85 tunnie? my 2.2 will sit at 85 if doing some speed.....90 is the usual for sittting in traffic....it once went upto 95 during the summer....really hot day and cooling fan came on in turbo mode..... :-/
-
tunnies supercool tho 8-)
-
Mine's gone down by about 2deg since changing the waterpump 8-)
-
Tunnie, thought your project was a 3.0?
-
I guess the V6's run a bit hotter. Mine runs at about 94 to 95 on the motorway at about erm...9*mph, but in traffic goes to about 98. Cruising at 60-70mph it's normally about 92.
-
Mine is the same - runs slightly cooler after my coolant change in the summer. Now that the cold weather seems to have arrived, I am glad of that 50 / 50 water / antifreeze mix!
I guess that the V6s run hotter owing to the water based oil cooler? I am always very impressed by how quickly the engine heats up from cold.

The reason that the v6 runs hotter is that the radiator is very similar to the smaller engined ones while the heat rejection of the v6 engine is much higher, as a rule of thumb an internal combustion engine rejects heat that is equal to 3/8 of its power output depending always to combustion recipe. The 50/50 mix is a guidance for global use of the vehicle.

Tunnie, thought your project was a 3.0?
Project A was a 2.5. B was a 3.0
Actually the 3.0 ran cooler than the 2.5, the coolant system was in better nick. The 2.5 ran cooler after i replaced the coolant.
TD - Yeah mine has always run super cool, its only ever reached 90 once! - That was in traffic on a hot day..
Quite often at 80mph with the cruise on it will sit below 80 on the temp...

Mine never budges from 85......

Does it take a long time to warm up Tunnie? ie more than 15mins to get to 80-85C

I thought yours never went over 45 AA :D

Mine takes less than 10 mins.

Mine takes about 10-15 mins to get to 85-90......but i was a bit concerned Tunnies runs below 80 when doing motorway speeds......waz wondering if his thermostat was sticking open....hence the question about how long it takes to warm up :y
-
i'll have to double check... can't really remember.
It does take a long time to warm up same as AA's around 10/15 mins sometimes.
Very, very rarely does it run abover 85... it used to be cause my climate condensor thing was nakered... runs a little hotter now got a new one in.
I'll double check the temp on my way back home this xmas....
-
10-15 mins sounds normal....
Mine runs at 85C at 80mph on the motorway.....check yours on the way home for crimbo.....much below 80C and it could suggest the thermostat is sticking open or not fully closing :y
