Thanks, he's been quoted £150 by an independant plus fitting, is that good?

Unlikely to be Vx at that price, and non Vx do tend to be very noisy....
-
that price sounds resonable but remember some things are best kepy vauxhall, like oil, and exhausts, maybe cats are the same....check what manufacturer ;)
-
Try here, Not sure of the quality but the price is nice ;)

Bought a centre box from them and it works fine little noisy but nothing major to deal with I would assume the CAT would be the same.
Just my tuppence worth :y

Thanks for the advice folks, will pass it on.

As it failed the MOT on emissions, would cleaning out the breathers and throttle cure the problem, or does it need a new Cat?
As far as I know they have never been done, car has done 147K.

Not sure if they can tell its failed cat - I suspect so from the gas report, though certainly wont harm to cleaning breather system and throttle.

Helped my mate clean out the throttle and breathers today on his Gls, what a job on a 2.0 ltr, nothing like as easy as a 2.2.
Now ticks over at 700 rpm instead of 1100 rpm.
Don't reckon it had ever been done in 147k.
Goes back in for a retest on Saturday after he's fitted a new cat.

New Cat fitted (thanks Andy8), sailed through MOT.
