Title: Best value wishbones?

If my wishbones are shot then they've lasted about 8,000 miles of motorway miles  :(  (this isn't confirmed yet but appears likely).

Genuine Vx ones are £180 each.

The ones I used were £45 + P&P for the pair from Vauxhall Spares Centre on Ebay. They looked OK and the delivery was good. They were advertised as having a 12 month guarantee. They're now 6 months old.

So does anyone have any recommendations on good value wishbones. On Ebay I can see FAI branded and some at £45 each. Have any of you chaps used Ebay wishbones trouble free for a decent length of time.

Good and bad stories would be helpful.

When the last set were fitted, were the front (horizontal bolts) tightened when the car was back on the ground or whilst the wheel was off the ground?

I personaly use genuine bushes and press them into the wishbones....but I have a press and the right drifts.

The bolts were loosely tighten whilst jacked up then torqued up when on the wheels. I think one of my rear bushes may have gone though!

No I don't really think I can handle replacing the bushes (although I do still have the original wishbones just in case). I just want a nice easy wishbone swap with the bushes and balljoint in place.

BTW the bolt tightening whilst on the wheels was probably more luck than judgement - I don't think the How To highlights the importance of this, nor does Haynes or the  TIS.....

Mark, if I looked at the bushes and got someone to start the engine and put the steering on full lock do you think the wishbones should stay pretty central in the bushes or is it OK for a the arm to to move say 1cm off centre in the bush?

This is with the wheels on the ground, so max force on the bushes.

Thats a lot of movement......sounds like faulty items to me....I struggle to get that much movement when using a lever.

I got wishbones from the buypartsby.co.uk website, about £18 each, they look ok and seem to work ok......
Done about 3000 miles on them so far, no problems.

Mark I don't get much with a lever - but I bet you're right.

gpb hadn't thought of buypartsby but a few members of my family have got good service from them on exhausts and brake discs.
