Hi Guys.
Is it possible to Convert the 3.0 MV6 Auto to a Manual?
I'm assuming all I'd need would be a Manual box, Clutch Pedal and associated bits, and clutch?
Are the mounts for the gearbox the same?
Cheers.

Its something that we plan to do in the future (we have the bits ready stripped off a donor)
The view is you definately need:
Pedal box (with clutch switch if you ahev cruise control)
Clutch master cylinder
Clutch fluid feed pipe (from side of brake master cylinder)
Clutch master cylinder to gearbox pipe (note it has a quick release coupling so you need both halves)
Flywheel (note: its dual mass)
Clutch kit
Gearbox with clutch slave cylinder and gearbox mounting brackets
Gearshift and associated internal trim and plates
Possibles are:
Rear diff (might be a different ratio to auto one)
Prop shaft (not sure if fittings and length are different)
Might be a few other items...Matchless would know as he stripped them off
After fitting you need to ground one of the ECU wires to tell the engine its a manual (easy enough) and get the MID re-programmed so it doesn't permanently report Autobox Check (can also be disabled witha small electrical mod)

Thats great cheers; Gives me somewhere to start on the shopping list.. :)

The best thing to do is find somebody breaking one and get them to let you take the bits you need.....dont forget the 3.0 has an R28 box unlike the 2.5 which as an R25.....
-
If you need MID config changed to Manual g/b, get in touch. Or if you want Engine ECU config set likewise, though Mark says grounding a wire does put it into manual mode...
-
Ah..the optional Driver Involvement Pack.
As Mark says, Im planning to do this on my project 2 car, its an S reg 2.5 so if you can wait a bit there should be a 'How To' at the end. Alternatively you do the hard work and post up the problem bits ;)
When you find a donor you need to get the complete gearstick gaiter assy, this means drilling out some pop rivets. Also need the tray thing behind gearlever / under handbrake handle.
On the one we stripped there was a bracket welded to the floor pan to attach the rear of the gearchange assy, I dont remember seeing it on the auto but on the other hand I cant believe they have two different floorpans for auto / manual.

Great stuff, just on the lookout for a Donour R28 Gearbox... though havn't found one yet though, might consider getting a recon one, though the ones I have seen are V.Expensive.
Yes, it was big stuff like the floor pan I was worrying about, and Gearbox mounts.
I have a lot of time to do it in (Thankfully), so going to take my time and get the correct bits.
Any idea's about the Pedal box, can this just be removed from any old Manual Omega?
Cheers

I presume the DVLC would need to be involved as well for doc's to be updated, they may want to see / test it as well :(
Insurance would want to know as well I reckon.

In my experience a dual mass flywheel is not strictly necessary on a V6 if you are performance minded. A medium weight chromolly flywheel often works fine if they are cheaper. Depends on the tranny too, how much noise it makes in neutral. Dual mass is quieter, but can wear out if you are aggressive. I have seen them where you can twist them 90 degrees by hand, but that was after heavy abuse and twice the original power output.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but, i thought it better to carry on from this one.
Im in the process of looking for a suitable donor car to convert mine (facelift 2000 plate MV6), i'd have them side by side.
My question is, would it possible to use either MV6/elite/cd etc pre-facelift 3.0 as a donor car??.
Just was wandering if all the parts were the same one all 3.0 models for facelift and pre-facelift???
Many thanks

Any 3.0 manual will do but MV6 will have carbon fibre trim round gear lever.
You will need the diff or do some sums to decide if you are happy with higher rpm/mph.
You will also need a spigot bearing to go into the end of you existing crankshaft.
An MV6 donor might have a limited slip diff...the fitting of them seems hit and miss though, we had an auto with lsd and a manual without.
-
Excelent, thanks for that. Its just looking a bit easier.
I will have the full car anyway so whatever parts ill need will already be there.
How do i tell visually between lsd and a non lsd diff? and would it be poss to keep mine. or is it all trial and error?
Last question, has anyone ever done a auto to manual conversion before?
Many thanks

Imagine how fast the MV6 would be with 3.9:1 final drive and AR25 gearbox, this is when you will feel the real 3lt power.
Theoretically the gearbox should die after a while but i have a friend with a escort rs2000 with gearbox from the 1.4 engine and he has done 60k so far with no problems.

I think the 3.0 would kill the 25 boxes eventually
-
I have the chance of a 2.5 gearbox, will this be any good or should i just avoid it like the plague?
Thanks
Jim
