LOst power steeering today for about 5 miles. No assistance at idle, then improved to rev engine it worked. At home it was fine and I could park OK.
Any ideas anyone?

Did speedo die with it?
Check fuse connection (poor connection)
Fluid level?
May be the pump is getting tired :(

Hi Martin not sure if this will help but i had the same problem on a Jag series3 4.2 and that was after it had been given a boot full on full lock. Turns out there was a valve in the back of pump that regulated the amount of assistance with engine speed, i.e on the road more revs less assistance to help with weight of steering, and valve stuck in open position for increased revs, valve eventually reset itself and steering was fine, ended up replacing pump anyway due to leaks. Like i said not sure if Omega system the same but if it is and fault doesn't come back then it will probably be okay. I found it best to let power steering fluid warm up before any antics in the cold weather. No doubt some one will have more info. :)

Anyone near you able to check the power steering for fault codes?

Only VX and Brackley is a bit too far away!
Anyway it was perfect yesterday afternoon, went for ashort drive to Bicknells (shut) Halfords (didn't buy anything) then a jet wash - saw 7 other Omegas incl. 2.5 F/L CDX. Newish Estate, N reg V6, and a Police car. All within a 5 mile drive
