Guys
My Meega has had a fair amount of work done on it and its still playing up.
When starting the engine it takes around 6-7 revoloutions before actually starting, this then puts car in limp mode!, no sports mode or kick down etc
If I switch off and on again it starts first time and all is well, I then have sports mode etc!
EML light is stuck on, Vaux said they can clear it, Codes are P0700 & P1700, I think its the Transmission Control unit that has a fault on it.
Any thoughts on this would be helpful

You need the codes from the g/box as well.
May be worth changing cam sensor as a matter of course, if not done so already....
-
cam sensor was changed last month and MAF sensor, changed gbox oil and filter and had ecu software updated.
Vaux said they couldnt clear the codes for some reason, i have a code scout which has shown DTC P0700 & P1700, these relate to the gearbox ecu, i still think that this is faulty.
Also had gearbox oil pressure sensor changed last year!

Without the g/box codes, you do not know why the g/box ecu is telling the engine ecu to reduce power. Thats why it is necessary to read the g/box codes as well.
The engine ECU codes (0700 and 1700) won't be cleared until the g/box fault reason is identified (because the codes will still be present)

Is your reader capable of reading g/box codes, or is it engine only?
-
my reader is only showing the P0700 & P1700 codes, dont think it can read Gbox!
May have to take it back to vaux, although i wasnt impressed as they seemed to have no knowledge on how to resolve or clear the codes, its really reassuring as they built the car!
Thanks for your advice, car was fine all day yesterday for some reason!

Many generic readers can only do engine, so you are seeing codes that the engine ECU has stored - ie, G/box has told me to go to reduced power. So to find why, you really do need to see what g/box has stored.
Reason I ask about cam sensor is we've seen similar problems due to cam sensor - did you do the cam (not crank) sensor yourself, or trust that garage actually did change it?
-
Garage that changed the camshaft sensor is owned by my father in law so i watched whilst they changed it!
Will vaux be able to read the gbox codes or will it be a specialist gbox centre that needs to do it!
Is there much that can go wrong with the gearbox?

................
Tech I/II will read it, whether Vauxhall technician will be able to interpret what it's saying is another matter. ;D

I had a similar problem on my Omega, same codes and and going into limp mode on starting up, never did it once it was running, changed the camshaft sensor and it made no diference at all, but after following another threat here (Taxidriver) I replaced the camshaft sensor again this time with a vauxhall original part and that did the trick, never had any fault codes since

Or take it to independant garage with code reader....my local backstreet garage has a generic reader that can read g/b ecu......ive used it on mine :y and cheaper than vx :y Lot cheaper.....well actually costs me nothing coz i just ask if i can use his reader and b4 he can say no....have grabbed the case its in and off to my car ;D But then he does know me ;D

I was getting P0340 as well tho.....carnt remember Gascon, where you just getting 700 and 1700 or 340 as well??
-
TD, in your case, the P0340 was the real giveaway, which is why I would like to get g/box codes from OP's car...

Agreed, Iirc my gearbox code was P0727 and summat else, but were both CAN bus errors, Jonnys omega might be complaining of something else wrong with the g/b.
-
Initially I did get P0340 and had the cam sensor replaced, not seen the code since, only the P0700 & P1700.
I will have to find someone who can read the gbox ecu!
I was thinking of having the Transmission ECU tested to see if it was faulty, vauxhall couldnt clear EML so i though the P codes relating to powertrain (gearbox) could mean a faulty Gbox ECU, otherwise when car starts (second time) it runs okay.

Its unlikely to be a faulty g/b ecu.......are you saying EML comes on (usually) when you first start the car and then after a restart the EML stays off? Just a bit confused with the symptons......as you say 'vx couldnt clear the EML'? implying its on all the time?

Did Vx check g/box for codes - they wouldn't be able to clear engine ecu codes relating to g/box requesting reduced power without at least check g/box codes...
-
vaux didnt mention anything about checking gbox codes, just said they couldnt clear eml.
Symptoms are car turns over several times when first starting then goes into limp mode - no safe mode etc.
If i turn off then back on again car starts straight away and drives fine, sometimes the car doesnt always change gear when you feel it should and vice versa but usually it drives fine even in sports mode.
I think i need to get gbox codes read!
-
error on last - symptoms -------- no sports mode not safe mode -----sorry
-
The symptoms you describe sound exactly like mine and Taxi Drivers symptoms.
Was the cam sensor changed with a genuine Vx one?
Took the dealer nearly 2 years to cure my problem, and it was only when I raised merry hell with Vx Customer Care did they consult Vx Tech Support.
On advice from Vx Tech Support they changed the cam sensor, problem disappeared (February this year).
-
dont think cam sensor was genuine vauxh part, think it was AC Delco
Not seen P0340 DTC since renewing though.
Do you think that I should renew again with Genuine Vauxh cam sensor?
If so how much r they ?
-
for a 2.2, £66 retail, £50 TC (+VAT)
-
Have you got a (very good) friend with a 2.2?
-
funnily enough, my next door neighbour has the exact same car as mine, same model and year.
But if its to borrow his cam sensor i dont think he would allow that.!
But im open to suggestions
-
Probably still need those g/box codes then. If g/box codes don't exist, then plan B....
-
It maybe the P1700 and P0170 are a red herring, coz ive just been outside to read my codes and guess.......i have P1700 and P0170 stored again, I carnt read the g/b ecu anymore so carnt see what thats complaining about but i will guess at can bus errors as it was before (will check tho when i visit my local garage next).
Gascon in post 11 said he changed the cam sensor for a non genuine one and still had the problem..and prob went when changed again with vx part...so maybe worth changing again with vx part as you used a non vx part as well.

TD, your codes may be old ones that need clearing - have you cleared codes since fitting new cam sensor?
-
It does sound like a cam sensor problem....

Yep i cleared em at local garage with 'snapon' diag tester when they changed the cam sensor for me.
Cleared all gb ecu and engine ecu codes
