Title: Daft idea. how different is the 3.2 to the 3.0 V6?
Post by: MaxV6 on 06 January 2007, 17:17:50
As I have 2 of the  3.0 V6 engined cars... (Sintra V6 CDX and Elite 3.0 V6 estate) I was just wondering how much physical difference there is between the 3 litre and the 3.2 ?  is it simply a re-bored/stroked and re-mapped ECU engine or are they thoroughly incompatible...  ???

I was just playing with the concept of a 3.2 being shoehorned into my Sintra being an interesting start towards creating something even more silly.....   I'm very fond of terrifying the average boy racer in their Gti , stamping their foot to the floor and wondering why the MPV behind them is still there.....  :D

My reasoning being that , just because i need to drive family sized vehicles...   it doesn't mean they can't be fun as well !

The Sintra is much , MUCH more secure on the road than a Zafira...   feeling more like the Senators I loved so much....   despite it's front wheel drive nature.....

I'm also kind of wondering if the traction control system on the Omega could be adapted for the Sintra???  The Sintra requires a certain amount of "respect" in the wet .....  pulling away a bit too quickly can leave you sitting there spinning the rubber somewhat foolishly as the weight transfers away from the driving wheels...

I know I know, this site's about the Omega....  Not the Sintra...  but I have both..... and there are things on the Elite I have that I'd very much like to see implemented on the Sintra also.....   given that they essentially share the same engine..... and some other bits.... it just makes sense...

cheers for your patience :D

Not much difference in power between 3.2 and 3.0 (or between 2.6 and 2.5).  The newer units are dbw, have no egr or secondary injection to go wrong.  Different ECU, coil per plug arrangement.  Certainly not worth effort swapping.

If you are after a few more HP, contact MTek here and ask about his powerchips (I believe sale on a present, so around £130 ish??).

I'm shocked Sintra doesn't have TC. On Omega, its integrated into abs ecu, but that talks to engine ecu to reduce power if the abs can't stop the wheelspin...

That’s what I thought… definitely you can’t see any EGR valve or secondary pump. But the Sales |brochure for the 2001 facelift clearly says that the 2.6 and 3.2 are fitted with electronic EGR (as opposed to the 2.2 which is still fitted with a mechanical EGR valve) and secondary air injection….

...but I agree with TB, not worth replacing.

I drove a 2.5 for 3 years and a 2.6 for 5, and the advantages of the 2.6 are mainly the ease of access to both banks due to the lack of the EGR valve on one side and the ICV on the other. But they don’t feel that different to drive.

Also, the 2.6/3.2 have lower compression ratio than the 2.5/3.0 – 10.0 as opposed to 10.8 – so how they managed to still squeeze a little more power out of the engine while reducing the compression ratio I don’t know…
