Title: Self opening windows
Post by: stevief on 08 January 2007, 14:48:39
After parking and locking my car this morning at 7:30 I've just been called around to my car, parked outside a police station, as my alarm had been going off intermitently since mid morning. They had checked the car a couple of times to make sure it had not been broken into but on the last check the passenger side windows were both down.

The only thing that had changed in the car was the washer level warning has come up on the mid which I didn't notice being on this morning.

Any ideas appreciated but I hope it has just been a spurious fault.

Haven't checked to see if the windows work with the ignition off yet and if they do it may be I've caught the switches on the way out of the car.

My Windows work for about 20 seconds with the key out and then they dont work
unless the key is put back in again  or unless you put them up with the remote.

You might of caught them with your fingers but if you had held down your lock button
on the remote it should put the windows up for you but only while you press the lock button

What I find is the windows wont work after shutting either of the front doors the switch lights usually go out.

Hope this makes sense

Craig,

Ta for the reply. I'm really begining to suspect it is a case of careless fingers but though I better check to see if it has happened to anyone else because I don't want it becomming a regular occurence.

I'm aware of the remote closure as I've used it a lot during summer due to rain and open sunroofs not mixing.

The switch on the drivers door for one of my rear windows is a bit dodgy. When you close the front door or slam the back door, the window sometimes goes down on its own. I just use the "Kiddy switch" to disable them, but you can't do this on the front.

I would try tapping the buttons edges and door trim (firmly) to see if it is the dodgy switch(es) like mine. Probably won't show anything, but it's free and doesn't require tools and may vent some of your frustration! [smiley=smiley.gif]

Press and hold the lock button

I knew it worked if you manually locked the door and held the key but I've been driving Megga's for 6 years now and never knew it did it from the fob.  Just checked. It works.  :-?

Thanks for the sugestions guys but it looks more like a case of operator stupidity more than anything else and just lucky I was outside a police station.

The police had had a look about inside the car though as I got a talking to for keeping my satnav in the centre armrest especially when the holder is still fixed to the dash!

Thanks again,

Steve
