Title: Cam Covers, Epilogue
Post by: Dave-C on 13 January 2007, 17:26:56
Gents, Thanks to all who advised recently on the cam cover gasket change..  Done them today with propper GM kit, at present there are NO visible signs of leaks, BUT still some smell inthe cabin and a small amount of oil smoke rising from the left manifold area, HOPE it's just the residue burning off, shall give the car a good run to see tomorrow...  Breathers were really clean, regular oil changes you know!  Did notice a slight deformation on the N/S cam cover BUT in my opinion the covers would fit dead flush to the head..

Cheers CHAP's

Glad it all went ok  :y

Smell and fumes are probably just whats left burnng off......To try to clean the oil off the gearbox i bought some Ross biodegradeable degreaser.....liberally sprayed it on....and used a jet washer....carefully avoiding anything electrical.....cleaned it up pretty well.....you could give that a go....but try to avoid spraying the degreaser and jet washing if the exhaust and cat is hot.....dont want to go cracking them  :y

Top job. May continue to smell for a week or so until all old oil burnt away...
