Anyone know what the symptoms would be of a dodgy clutch slave cylinder?
Still battling my clutch / gearbox issue and have now thoroughly reverse bled the clutch - no improvement.
As it stands sometimes it's hard to get into gear, especially at high revs. It's sometimes reluctant to let go of a gear.
It's not consistent - sometimes it's fine. Generally it's 2nd, 3rd, 4th that are the most trouble.
Today noticed a slight clunk as the slack in the drive train is taken up when it's put into first with the clutch in.
If the gearbox is coming off I want to buy all the bits I need first.
I'm thinking of clutch kit, thrust bearing and slave cylinder. A complete luk set is £210 + VAT.

Owch !!

Whats the mileage.....sound more like a worn clutch but, there bloody big and last a long time....

It's done about 111K Iirc.
Blimy Mark, on 2 forums at once? Just seen you online at the Caddy site.

Depends how its been driven.....generaly if a slave cylinder is a bit iffy then it leaks....if the master cylidner was a bit iffy then you might get reduced pressure...never seen either cause a problem on an Omega.

Spot on Barge Captain 111k miles.
Lot of motorway miles but I think the previous owner drove it hard (from what his wife said when he was selling it!!).
I've made a bit of progress on this and (of course) it agrees with Mark's diagnosis.
I'm now fairly certain it's clutch drag. Basically the higher the revs the harder it is to change gear. If you let the revs drop to below 1k it pretty much changes fine (whatever gear, whatever speed).
Had a chat with the local gearbox centre today (very nice chap and very helpful). He thinks my symptoms aren't gearbox, they're clutch. He suggests taking it all apart and having a look (easy for him to say!).
He did say, though, that the dual mass flywheel can become a bit soggy and follow the friction plate a little, causing drag (very expensive).
Got the prices from Vx today:
Clutch kit 93185904 Trade Club £169.76 + VAT
Slave cylinder 9126743 Trade £161.53 + VAT
So this isn't going to be cheap.
A dual mass flywheel OEM seems to be be about £350 + VAT. I believe the genuine part is £900.
Now what do I get?? Or do I take it apart and have a look first??

Get a LUK clutch kit from a factor without the slave cylinder, they are an OEM supplier...there must be plenty of 2.5 DMF's out there.....

Will do - cheers Mark

I thought the clutch kit is much cheaper than that on TC, around £80? I got mine from a member over on the dark side who'd bought a genuine VX kit but sold his car before fitting it so it was brand new of course. IIRC I paid around £55-60 for it including postage, I don't think he'd have let it go so cheaply if it cost £170 + VAT!
That was for a 3.0 clutch kit which I believe are a little more beefy than the 2.5s.

Hmmm.
Can anyone check my TC part number for me (I don't have a TC web login). Perhaps it includes the slave cylinder....maybe... which would be nice.

Any sign off dropping fluid level in the resavoir? any fluid around the slave cylinder? If it's the master at fault then i suspect the fluid would just leak around it's internal seals and not escape the system.
Just phoned Partco on Feeder Road. Clutch kit up to year 2000 with dual mass is £118.67 +vat, and the hydraulic bearing (?) is £92.71 + vat. Forgot to ask what make.

Julian cheers for that.
You can't see the slave cylinder until the gearbox if off and there is no fluid loss.
I'm currently on the lookout for a secondhand DMF and a new clutch kit with a release bearing.
Hopefully that will be all I need, otherwise I'll have to get the bits whilst the car is in pieces.

TC website is effectively down whilst they update with the new (more expensive >:() prices....
