:question after giving the omega a full service i noticed a small black vacuum pipe just hanging loose ( see pic),had a good look around but cant find anything it might go on, there is a small plastic piece stuck in it and it looks like its snapped off. could this have something to do with the heaters direction.. :question

What is the other end attached to (this should give us an idea if its connected to a vac source or actuator)

Ok....I suspect it should connect to the barke servo vaccum line (bloody big pipe with a one way valve in it) near the one way valve....it might have been snapped of from here....
It lookslike the vac feed to the reservoir above the pollen filter which does indeed conrol the heater etc....
Do you also have a pic of the brake servo pipe near the one way valve....

Yes...a lot.
Can you see just to the right of the branch on which another vac pipe is attched there is rough section....looks like the pipe has broken off here..........worth a closer look to see if its been buggered with in the past or just happened (look for signs of glue)

Looks like some kind person has put a screw in the hole......
Was the heating direction etc working?

Just make sure they are not warm wet feet - got to wonder why screw used to replace hose in the first place :-?

Right, what has happend is that the plastic stub has broken off the servo pipe...this is causing the heater trouble.
You have two choices.
1) Put a T-piece on the remaining tap point to to ffed both vac pipes.
2) Remove the screw from the servo pipe and the broken piece of pipe from the vac tube end. Flatten the end of the broken section of pipe and find a drill bit which is the same diameter. Use the drill bit to open out the hole in the brake servo pipe. Then roughen the area around drilled hole. Place some super glue around the outer end of the broken piece and insert it 2-3mm into the hole, apply more glue around the outer piece to re-enforce the joint (epoxy is actualy better for this bit) Leave to dry and re-attach the vac pipe as it should be.
3) Get a replacement servo pipe from a scrapper.

what i was thinking off is drilling out a brass screw and screwing back into the hole then fit the pipe back on

What ever you are most comfortable with.....just dont screw it in to far and restrict the vaccum to the brake servo..

Have a look at the crankcase breather pipe (back right of cam cover) it looks like the hose clips arnt on properly. If you have problems with the idle air valve clogging up then you can replace that right angled rubber pipe with an oil separator (dealer part) which helps to reduce the amount of oil mist carried into the throttle body.

Sorry shouldn't laugh but it always amazes me the ingenuity of self-proclaimed "mechanics" to bodge broken things so they don't have to bother fixing them. Reminds me of the time I couldn't work out why only one headlight leveller worked on my old 540i, turned out some tit had broken the plastic part of the light surround and subsequently held it in place with a cable tie!
