Can anyone please give me some advice. I have a 2001 omega 2.5 v6 and strongly suspect the heater bypass vale is leaking at the rear of the engine. I have located and can barely see the valve but cannot figure out hoe to get to the stupidly placed item.I have searched the site and found various comment about the valve but cannoy find any instruction on how to get to it.I have contacted the main agents who's advice was to book it in with them or as one cocky little fat mechanic ( who probably won't fit under mu bonnet anyway ) said buy a Haynes manual. Could anyone please give me a general indication how to get to this vale and the easiest way to replace, regards. :y

Remove scuttle and wipers, access is a lot easier then ;)

Once those bits are off it will lift upwards off it's bracket so that you can move it a bit to get to the hose clips.

Yes, with wipers and scuttle off, access is better. Still fiddly, but doable...

and do it soon as hbv leak/ failure ofter can speed up dis pack failure - as its sort of below the valve.... :o

and if it has been leaking some time, I would replace the DIS as well - especially as you have everything off to get at it!
If you are going to go down this route, make sure you get the correct one as there are three different types.

Personally, I would only replace the DIS on failure due to its price.
Once the scuttle is off (5m job), the DIS is 'accessible'

Fair enough, I am just a bit lazy I suppose and like to do all things in difficult areas whilst I can!
Plus, IF it has been leaking for some time, it may be about to fail......................
But I take your point especially as I have no idea how much they are.

I agree, if it has had a prolonged soaking in nice hot coolant, it will fail at some point. But the hbv may not have sprayed the DIS, so may be OK. At £150 ish at dealer, not the sort of thing I would change unless it failed, or I could prove it was going to soon.
Its only 5mins to get scuttle off ;)

Hi all, Firstly thanks for all your help on getting to the heater bypass valve.I have now hit a snag and had to put it all back together without changing the valve.I managed to remove the scuttle under the wipers but there is a centre section under that and I can't figure out how to remove it. It appears to be made of some sort of foam and once removed gives me more access to the rear of the engine but cannot find out how it is secured. Please help !

The foam should be fastened to the bottom of the scuttle. If it's dropped off it should be loose unless someone has fastened it somehow.
