Title: Traffic Master
Post by: ClarCE on 22 February 2007, 11:52:57
Hi all,

When I push the traffic master button on the right of the dash nothing happens.. Is there some quick check I can do or some frequent problem that people encounter? Is it built into the radio or is it a seperate unit somewhere?

Cheers,

Chris.

One press should either give a message "Traffic Master" if it has not received any data (indicated by a green or red light) or give you a message about the road you are travelling on (or near to)

This is a subscription service (£30 / year) so if your licence has expired, it should give a message telling you so.

When a message is being announced, the radio is muted, the voice comes through the radios speakers and on my simple MID, the word MESSAGE appears.

Telephone number for customer service is 08705 561712

Right, making more sense now, however pressing it does nothing, no lights, no message, zilch.

Sometimes, the audio loom from the TM unit is removed to fit an aftermarket cellphone car kit, rather than using the correct loom.

It may also be disconnected to stop the disembodied voice gibbering at you everytime you accidently press the button or turn the ignition on/off/on

"Trafficmaster license expired - call 08 . .blah blah blah"  Does your head in! [smiley=smiley.gif]

Try looking behind the panel above the pedals. The traffic master box is mounted there (on mine it was anway!) and may have its plug pulled.

It could have been put on e-bay of course! [smiley=smiley.gif]

Excellent, just what I needed - I'll check it out when I can get out the office without being seen..

Or you could pay the £30 like I did.  I just don't like knowing theres a facility that isn't working, however useful/useless it is...

Being a tight fisted Yorkshireman. £30 was a bit rich!

I had thought about paying the subscription for the TomTom traffic thing through the mobile as I reckon this would be more useful (ie. able to find an alternate route easily).

TrafficMaster is fine if you can find your way round a problem area. From the guys at work who had it fitted to company cars, it is a bit like Marmite it seems. . . . You either love it or hate it!

I just got chance to have a look, found a metal box under the dash, 3 cables going in - 1 looks like it goes to the button, 1 looks aerial related, and the one on the left looks like it goes towards the stereo - maybe its just fubar..

Also, try switching-on the stereo before pressing the TM button - the message starts before the speakers catch-up, on my car if the radio is off you only get to hear to last bit of the message...

That sounds like the Traffic Master box. Silver box. Stuck on with double sided tape.

Is there any evidence of a phone kit being fitted? As stated before, it could have been bypassed for this.

I've had a good look and theres certainly nothing obvious - no holes or random cabling anywhere I can see..  I notice they're only 7 quid on ebay, so I might try one of them out when I can be bothered.

Cheers

It may have been disconnected at the Head unit end and actually be "working" fine, just the sound not coming through the stereo (Don't know how it connects to head unit)

Personally, I'd rather spend the £7 on ebay and give it a go rather than muck about taking the stereo out or looking at the wiring in the glove box etc.

Just out of interest, does the word "Message" come up on the Radio display when you press the TM button? It should do if TM is connected (of course, usually coupled with the annoying voice! [smiley=smiley.gif]"

Nope, it doesn't do that either - I'm pretty good with stereo's and wiring so I'll whip the head unit out later..

When I first got mine I think the volume had been tuned down.
If you press the button three times it should options.  I think one is volume??

Long time since I adjusted it. Could be mis-information?

I have subscribed for a year as well and if I push the button when the car is on the drive it says trafficmaster but if im on a main road and I go past on of those blue poles with what looks like cameras on the top it bleeps and the light turns green. If I then push the button it gives me traffic info for the surrounding roads.
