Well after the long day at the V6 party, started my short drive home from Max's house and had a couple of problems.
1. Autobox not kicking down and gear change was happening very low down the rev range even on full throttle would only change around 3000 rpm sport mode made no difference. Then got a message on MID display saying check autobox. so I limoed the car home doing no more than 50 and 2000rpm. Tried the car this morning and seemed ok no message and kickdown etc.. working checked the fluid level and all appears ok. So not sure what happemed last night, fault should be stored in the ECU so will have to get it read fairly soon.
2. Temp guage never got above 92 and heating was not as warm even when set to high. Once again checked car this morn, car runs upto temp ok and fan kicks in around 95 but heater still not very warm checked heater matrix pipes and these were both hot and water level was all ok, I think I might have an airlock but not sure, Ive squeesed as much air out when i refilled the system.
Has anyone got anything else I cancheck on either of the above probems

On problem 1 is there anyway that you flash the code out like you do on the earlier cars by shorting a couple of pins the diagnostis socket and count the ECU telltale lamp to get the code?

Worth changing ATF as first port of call....
Would it be worth changing the filter as well seeing as the gearbox has only done 13000 miles, also exactly what parts would I need gasket wise and is it just a matter of removing the one sump or is it in 2 parts?

In that case, may be worth checking level....

Checked the level this morn after i'd taken it for a run so that the oil was warm and the level was fine and the fluid was nice and clean. The fault didn't show up when i took it for a run. Might get the ECU read in that case to see which fault has been stored.

If you had an airlock and the coolant was struggling through the rad then it could have caused the autobox fluid to get a bit hot....
Did we change your belt and pump.....struggling to remember whos cars I worked on!

Well the fault showed its ugly head again this morn on the way to dropping the kids off to school. Got 1 mile(so don't think its related to oil overheating) down the road no kickdown and not changing down the box properly and warning on dash MID. Then on way home put foot down and a servere judder for about 2 secs then cleared, at traffic lights it's as though it was stuck in 2nd, eventually pulled away from the lights then it was if the box went into neutral for a split second as the revs rose very quickly. When going from Drive to reverse the revs drop right off and engine occasionally stall. Will do fluid change today and clean filter out.
Unless anyone else has anymore ideas

What a pain! Talk about bad timing. Only other thing I can suggest is to make sure all the auto box electrical connections are secure and watertight. It was very wet on Saturday night. If, as you suggest, the gearbox has been changed relatively recently the electrical connections have been disturbed so may not be as protected from the elements as they should be.
Check the battery voltage is OK as well. A low or high supply voltage might affect the gearbox and give the odd gauge readings you mentioned.
