I bought today from Vx the bits needed for:
Replacing front wheel bearings (with hubs), front disks, front pads, inc. sensor and new caliper carrier bolts. Changing brake fluid.
Replacing cam covers gaskets, including all plenum gaskets and o-rings (while I am at it).
Major service - all filters i.e. air, oil, fuel - exc. pollen filter and the actual engine oil (already have those).
Total cost £444 inc. VAT - the TC bits at TC prices, the rest at normal Trade prices.
All paid for but not all collected - some items need to ordered (it's a small dealership).
I must also say that both the Parts Manager and his assistant are A+, very kind and helpful chaps and also know their stuff.
Still outstanding are some extra tools I need to get:
5NM-25NM Torque Wrench (for cam covers 8NM)
210NM-395NM Torque Wrench (for hub nut 320NM)
32mm Socket and massive Breaker Bar to remove the b****y nut in the first place
Brake Bleeding Kit (unless I'm lucky and manage to get my other half to pump the brakes)
Jobs are scheduled for April when I'll have some free time. Venue is still a problem, at the moment it's the street parking in front of my house but I may come up with a better idea...

I have a torque wrench for the cam covers.......you welcome to borrow it....im sure the 'network' could get it too you. Ive left it at Tunnies at the mo.....jamesv6cdx needed it.....but im sure it will be back with me shortly.
Alternatively if you want to buy one......i got mine from Halfords......professional range....£50...reduced to £40 with TC :y

BTW - can anyone confirm that the wheel bearing nut is 32mm?
I am assuming I will need a deep socket too, so that the breaker bar clears the front wing...
Also, between 6-point and 12-point socket, which one will give better grip? That's one nut I don't want to round...

I understand, talking to Marks_DTM and Matchless on Friday, you need a scafold bar to break the front wheel bearing nut.
I think you need, if you can chat him up, a trip to the Nottingham area........

Thats the one I have, a nice little wrench actualy (get also a 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor to!) and a fantastic price.
Front hub nut is F tight....it needs a 2-3 foot bar to undo......other than that its a straight forward job.

The problem I have is that since I was looking for a very long bar - i.e. 1m - they only come with 3/4" or 1" drive, but not 1/2". This makes finding a deep socket difficult for some reason.
If I went for a shorter bar - i.e. 600mm - I could get one with 1/2" drive (it would also be cheaper - around £20) and then finding a deep socket for it seems much easier.
So it boils down to this (a) my feeling was the the 1m breaker bar is a safe bet, I can't see how the nut will NOT get undone with this leverage, but will a 600mm bar do? and (b) do I really need a deep socket? The reason I am trying to get one is that it seems that with a shallow socket I will need to turn the wheel inwards or outwards so that the bar clears the bodywork and then have only a limited radius to work on, while the deep socket will allow me free access from any angle?

I've never done anything like this but wouldn't you need a hardened (impact type) socket to take the torque? I split my normal socket releasing the wishbone pinch bolt.

Yep hub nut on mine was 32mm & managed to get it loose with a 400nm breaker bar which is about 600 mm long. Not sure you would need the impact socket, i got it off with a standard deep socket
I notice you are in London & you are welcome to use socket & bar if you want, just gathering dust at the mo :y
