Title: Lowering and Wheel size

Thinking of lowering my 2.5 estate and going from a 17" rim to 19 or 20".
What's the most I can drop before I have to start worrying about altering the arches with these size wheels?
Anyone had any experience that suggests it aint worth it with these size rims?

dont know about arches question but when changing tyre sizes note speed indicators change -visit here for info http://pw1.netcom.com/~sgalaba/tiresize.htm
