Title: Oil level sensor on a 2.2?
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 25 February 2007, 19:01:37
On my way to Tunnies yesterday and on the way back home the comp kept complaining to check oil level.

So today i did......and it was 1/2 way between min and max on dipstick......i chucked 1/2ltr in it.....but it still complained about oil level when i went to my parents at lunchtime......they're about a 20min run away...it didnt complain when i was doing town driving.....same as yesterday....it seems only to complain when im doing 50+ mph.

So question is, is this likely to be the oil level sensor (even tho im confused why it doesnt complain when just turning the ignition on and not starting? perhaps someone could explain that one to me )

And if so.....where is it and is it difficult to change?

Cheers

Sorry TD, I havn't had that problem yet.

I'd assume it was somewhere near the oil  ;D

The sensor is in the bottom of the sump. Have you got the correct oil in it, not too thick? I suspect you have but it's probably just taking longer to run down from the heads than it does when you are around town so there is more of it at the top end. I doubt if a new sensor will fix it if that is what's happening.

Does that make sense? Pumping more oil up at speed than around town and it not dribbling back quickly enough. Could it be the pressure relief valve starting to fail and sending too much up top?

Just a thought It may be a Pressure problem

I had full oil on the dip stick and i knew it was full and i had the oil light on and it was the oil pump not saying yours is the oil pump but may be a pressure problem get the oil system pressure tested to see if the correct pressure is there.

Having the same problem with my 2.0   :-/

Keeps telling me to "Check oil level" (but not all the time)
Oil light never comes on and there is no oil leak....constantly check oil level and all is ok.

Im not getting the oil light on.....so im assuming pressure is ok....its just the comp saying to check oil level......so im assuming rightly or wrongly its a faulty sensor  :-/

Its got vx semi in it......perhaps an oil and filter change might be worth a go first then  :-/

Got the oil and filter changed this morning......and been upto Heathrow this afternoon and it seems to have sorted it  :-/  Well the comp is not complaining about it anymore at the mo.....so touch wood.

Strange tho.....that oil/filter hasnt done thaaaaat much mileage.

Tho the comp has now decided to complain about summat  else  >:(

Ive got a brakelight out......tho i can fix that myself in the morning  ;)
