Hey,
Noticed the other day that when I put the MV6 into sports mode & accelerate rapidly :D it seemed like the clutch was slipping. I am reliably informed the auto boxes have a clutch but am after a rough price for the part - is it a 'clutch' kit? Anyone changed this? Or could the symptoms be someit else?

I am not totally sure to be honest.....but over the 20 years ive driven autos.....this is my view....autos do have clutches.....forward and reverse.....but if a clutch is slipping then more than likely you will smell burning atf fluid.....and that stinks...you carnt miss it.....it could also be the torque converter slipping....however its been said on here before.... that changing the atf fluid and making sure its at the proper level has cured serveral probs with auto boxes....so i would try that first.....then if i doesnt cure it....i dont think its worth messing with the autobox.....try to find a replacement

i agree try changing the fluid first.
Another thing to try when the box is empty remove the sumps under the box and clean the/change the filter inside.
I had a similar problem with a Carlton and after getting quotes for stupid money to get it fixed found that the filter inside the box was filthy.
Cleaned the filter, changed the ATF and replaced the sumps with new gaskets. Be careful that you do not over tighten the sump bolts as they can easily strip the threads.
Job sorted and lot cheaper than a replacement box.

Try fluid but if that fails you will need the brake bands adjusted AFAIK it is a retorque.
There is an overhaul document on the web somewhere - think it is yahoo Omega group.
My 2.0 was starting to get a little of this and that is what I think it was, just the odd little slip on gear change

Bit confused as to whether the auto box actually contains a form of clutch or whether it is all taken car of by the torque converter??
I take on board the point re ATF fluid & will make that my first response

There's no clutch to engage drive as you pull away as you have in a manual setup - that's handled by the torque converter. There are however brake bands that select the ratios by braking different parts of the gear chain. These are friction materials but are subject to much less wear than a traditional clutch and normally only replaced when the whole box is due for an overhaul. On some boxes they can be adjusted.
The fluid is the medium by which the torque converter couples drive from engine to gearbox so if it's tired or low in level it can give some "slip" hence the recommendation to change that first. If the fluid smells of burning or is brown and opaque it's an indication that the brake bands might have been slipping but a fluid change is the first port of call.
