I just wanted to pop out (I'm at work).. got in the car, it fired up, and then cut clean out.
When I crank it, it's just coughing.. there is a spark.. but it won't run. Happened all of a sudden.
I can't check much at the mo, because A it's dark, and B I'm meant to be working.

I was hoping nobody would ask. 70 litres of the crap is in the tank.

Bugger!! :(
From the news it sounds like the bad batch was a week or so ago, could that account for the crap MPG?

I dunno, but I don't care what anyone says, 20mpg driving carefully aint enough...

Agreed. Hope you get it sorted James.. You're working late aren't you?!
-
until 6am..... >:(
-
hope you have some good matchsticks

I agree 20 is ridiculous in a 2L.
Does it feel like its running ok?
-
Absolutely fine.....
-
Is it 2L or 2.5? Your thingy (on the left says 2.5)
Either way 20 is very low unless you have lead shoes

2.0 at the moment mate, automatic.
Even driving with a feather foot... 22mpg...

Have you done your own test on this James? I mean could the computer be lying?

Absoultely.. all figures are based on my own calculations.....
-
It almost seems too coincidental that suddenly tesco's are pumping out dodgy fuel, you're getting shabby MPG and now its quit on you altogether... I sincerely hope its not that mate!
-
Yes so do I. I haven't read too much about this story, but it sounds a bit drastic for just some grotty fuel.
Anyway good luck mate.
-
Ok, got it going again.
Put on a better battery, and cranked it at WOT .. and she coughed into life... Gave it a few hard revs and seems to run OK....
The drive home should hopefully prove it either way....
-
Good news James :y
Sounds like it was just flooded then if it started on WOT.....or maybe crank sensor starting to play up :-/
-
Crossed my mind TD...
when I went to drive home.. started on the third attempt.. and then drove fine all the way home!
I'll read the codes when I can be arsed later after getting some sleep.. the EML did come on when it was coughing!!
-
see what codes say.
This wouldn't be the current petrol thing (as described bt media), is it would still in in open loop. Of course, it could still be shit petrol, but I didn't think it webt that far west...
-
Great that you made it home.
For the ignorant (me) what is WOT?
Cheers

There is a spot in Gloucestershire to do with this petrol problem and James has had the Greenergy 99 RON Ethanol stuff

Apparently the bum fuel isn't ethanol, silicon independently confirmed;

Ethanol has great octane rating, but horrible mileage. Therefore you pay more tax per mile . . . ::)
-
Have you got normal size tyres on? Your rolling circumference maybe incorrect if you have, therefore mileage wrong, speedo reading incorrect, calculations wrong!!! Not meaning to sound as though taking the P, but there are 4.38 litres in 1 gallon, I once did the calculation with 4.83 to the gallon, it makes a difference!!!
Hope this helps and hope you get sorted quickly..

I wonder if a temp fix is to get some octane boost in these vehicles?????? ::)
