Title: Progress, MPGs are improving! (Cheers Mark..)
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 08 March 2007, 23:52:52
Changed my thermostat in my lunchbreak today... as per my other thread, there was no stat fitted before!

After a good run, I can report that:

1) I have warmth in the cabin! Lots of warmth, just like I would expect now.

2) Temp gauge, once warmed up, sits on 90. Still a tad low.. but it's better than just moving off the bottom!

3) Filled up the tank to the top from empty (Shell V Power), and on a 65 mile run, mostly doing 60mph, it cost me approx £7 to refill.. (at 99.9p a litre!)..  I worked it out to be 41.3mpg.. which is much improved (I got 36mpg on the same run before), so I've gained nearly 6mpg on a run, and I'd guess a good improvement around town (time will tell!)

4) Still a slightly high idle, especially when not in gear. I'm still suspecting an air leak around the throttle body area, so I will change those gaskets, maybe tomorrow.. and report back on that..hopefully that too will give me even more MPG.

Progress  ;D

Excellent news......when you re-check the throttle body, make sure the throttle stop is set so the throttle butterfly is fully closed when the accelerator is released....this is a common bodge to overcome sticky idle valves....

90 is actually a little warm for the 4 pots, mine only reaches this in heavy stop start town use. Normally its around 85  :y

Unless the 2.0's run hotter than the 2.2's?  :-/
