ok guys. think the v6 in my motor has to many problems to fix and it would be cheaper to swap out for another... so what needs removing to get it out? obv firstly removing the gearbox...
so far i have figured out:
- Exhaust manifold
- Coolant pipes (to rad)
- Fuel Lines
- Air Intake
- Vac Lines
what else needs removing? any easy way of figuring out where the vac lines go back in? lol
thanks. Rob

:y hi rob
when i took my 2.0l engine out i labelled everything up
with numbers 1 on the vac pipe and the other no 1 on where it came off
made it a lot easier when putting back...
good luck :y :y mick

I expect the manifolds stay on, since removing the engine is one of only a few ways to change the EM gaskets.

LOTS of digital piccies.

Manifolds stay on..
drop the downpipes..
bagpipes and rad out, so you don't damage it
all coolant hoses / fuel lines / vac pipes outta the way
all electricals, (don't forget crank sensor)..
Airbox assembly and all intake stuff off..
Scuttle off
Don't forget coolant hoses at the back, inc the one that feeds the HBV
Not a difficult job, but a time comsuming one.
On re-fitting, make sure the manifolds are held on securely with new gaskets and new studs if you like...
While engine is out, is a good time to do a lot of thigs that are usually hard to get it.. you could pop a new timing belt kit and water pump on the donor engine too
Unfortunately I can't offer you an Engine.. because I need the heads off mine for when I get a project Elite...

Build it to use 98 RON juice and get better efficiency
-
how'd you do that then MI?? be interesting...

2.5 heads have lower volume -> higher CR.

oh rite, cheers theolodian. probably wont take that on then... got enough on my plate doing the engine. starting on sat afternoon working through and finishing hopfully sun night (mon morining at the latest.) is it possible in that time scale? anyone available this weekend who'd be able to help out for a bit lol? ;)

The g/f is out of town w/e of the 25th, not free other than then. ::)
Do the EM gaskets, studs.
Should be readily doable in that timescale with a hoist. Get sleep.
-
lol no one i know has a hoist, so were usin a forklift truck haha ;D is it easier to drop the autobox first or to lift it all out in one? (workling over a pit btw)

As Theo says :D
You get a bit more power, James is also thinking of using gas which means you can afford high octane petrols for warm up, as Propane is well over 100RON
I am thinking of recon 2.5 heads and 3.0 cams on mine as I want a lot more CR

Print out the method from TIS (I did give you a copy) and tick off each bit as you do it. Worked for me on the Senator.

You make it sound so easy James! ::)
If I win the lotto, fancy removing the 2.2 lump in mine and shoe horn in a 6.0 V8 from the Monaro? And just for good measure, supercharge it! :D

Oh :-[ forgot you did. may need to borrow it though. as the lad who's workshop i was going to be using is possibly goin away this weekend and i need it done by the begining of next week (so i can get shot of the BMW, gawd its horrible)
again. an appeal for help from anyone who's free....

Quick question. can the engine be removed without dropping the gearbox? IE: by removing rad, bell housing bolts, engine mounts etc... then moving it forward and up.....
if i can get away without dropping the box then thats the ideal scenario.
thanks.
-
I believe you have the option of separating the gearbox or not. There's quite a bit of room at the front with everything out of the way.
Seen a few engines on Ebay and at scrappers with the gearbox on and I bet they didn't put the box back on after removing the engine!
-
Once radiators and all the other stuff is removed you can take out engine and gearbox together.
-
2.5 heads have lower volume -> higher CR.
What about valves and ports , are they smaller than 3.0?
Also, how do the 2.6 heads compare to the 3.2 - can you up compression on a 3.2 by fitting 2.6 heads?
-
IIRC the 2.5 heads have the same size valves and ports, just the 3.0 cams make them open as far as they used to.... :-[ i think....

will it not foul on the floor :-? i dont have use of a pit now :-/ will try without the box but if needs be will have to do it with >:(
