Title: Ex Member
Post by: miggy on 11 September 2007, 22:32:19
Gents

I feel i have to give up the membership to this fantastic forum, Comments were made on the Nice thread that really Piss*d me off tonight, I have had an issue with the Omega and it has also caused me a bit of hassle.

I did not apprieciate the comment, although it was supposed to be light hearted I did not take it that way, I did not think the forum was about taking the rag out of others car problems.

This is a brilliant forum and I will miss all the members I have made contact with.

All the best for the future to you all

Pete (Sir Miggy)

Thanks to the admins for all their help given to me over the past few months, and you all do a great job, could you please remove my details from the profile.
All the best.

I'm also only a few mins up the road from you...

I don't think anyone needs to leave .. a nights sleep, a little tolerance, maybe a PM or 2 to sort things out,  lets all sit back and SLOW DOWN ... instant reactions lead to long term pain ..  please BOTH reconsider what you are saying !!

I don't think anyone needs to leave.  Hopefully both parties can sort out a bad taste joke between themselves, privately over PM.

An apology has been made

I agree, don't do anything hasty.

We have all had issues now and again with the responses we get on the forum, but at the end of the day, we all share a common bond. The fact that we are able to make and take mickey-taking comments shows that we have a really good group here. If it was all deadly serious, I wouldn't visit so often. ;)

Also, when someone oversteps the mark they can only apologise, there's nothing else they can do. If an apology is sincerely made, I believe it should be accepted as such. Let's shake hands and get on with enjoying this forum.  :y

The moderators are here to moderate and the admin to admin... if you have taken offence please alert the authorities - this is what they are here for. If disciplinary action is indeed needed then it will be taken, though most cases can be resolved by a simple apology. By leaving the site both you and us are loosing out...  hope to see you back soon, Sir Miggy!

Now, that's not quite right Jaime. What we can now read and judge by is not what was there clearly, as you removed an offending post.

I have just had a similar experience on another forum I moderate on and the member that left will be also missed, but the offending post was left withy minor asterix editing so that others could get the jest of why they were offended.

Not saying you have done wrong Jaime at all. It is just difficult for us to see what went wrong and I would suggest removing that entiore thread may be a better option.

Then publicly floggy Laidback just for the hell of it! :y

I am the first to agree I could/should have moderated that a little better. Perhaps I should have left it to one of the other guys, as I was busy after spending all evening under a tractor, thentrying to sort out some server issues.  However, as the PMs seemed to be coming to me, I did a quick and dirty and removed the offending post (at request of alledged offender (reading between the lines), plus all those that followed, as most had quotes in, and had gone off the original topic.

Perhaps, entire thread removl may have been better, though you know I am against that, unless the orignal post was a problem.

The best way, in my book, would have been to spend more time on the issue - but unfortunately it was time I didn't have - a PM box of 40 unread msgs, server issues, another OOF issue that I won't go in to here, plus the other forums I moderate.  It was all going a bit wrong yesterday...

So sorry to anyone if you think I did wrong - its a human task to moderate, and for a variety of reasons, decisions can sometimes appear/be wrong.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Jaime. You do a super job and it's one which 99.9% of us wouldn't be able to handle. The problem here is one of human nature. Whenever you get banter, boundaries are crossed and because on the net we do not have the advantage of telling if we've offended, or seeing if someone is jesting, things can get out of hand. Of course we need moderators, but at the end of the day it's up to the members to sort out their issues in an adult way. We are all capable of throwing the toys out of the pram, but you're not a child minder!  ;)

Agree - on the spot decision made to remove offending posts, problem area therefore removed. Good immediate decision. :y

We can always perhaps make better decisions after sitting down and methodically analysing things.

That however is called hindsight. Not something any of us have the benefit of at the time.

To put some of this in a clearer form, last night I posted what I considered to be light hearted banter into a thread; however, it was not taken as such and on re-reading what I wrote I can see why.

As soon as I realised that what I posted was offensive I immediately posted an apology to Sir Miggy, I certainly never meant any upset, I also PM'd Sir Miggy to apologise and have said both via PM and on this thread that I am the guilty person and I will leave if it would convince Sir Miggy to not leave.

TheBoy deleted the offensive post from the thread which I believe was the correct thing to do as it would have spiralled further out of control; I thank him for his swift action.

I publicly wish to say that I am deeply sorry and upset that a post of mine has caused offence to Sir Miggy and possibly other people on this site. I am totally gutted that a forum that has been so friendly and helpful to me has been damaged by my actions.

I doubt I would be thanked much for my honest opinion, so I won't give it.

But.. I will say as much as - your mistake was obviously a genuine one and not malicious at all. You have also done everything you possibly can to rectify and apologise. We're all human, and all make mistakes.  There is no more you can do - he is leaving off his own back. He is a good guy and is welcome back anytime, but ultimately it's his decision.

Now Jaime, you know me well enough mate. This place wouldn't run without you - that's why I asked you lasty year to do this. Today I am strring it all up, but seriously I think you do a sterling job.

Sir Miggy seams to have taken a bit of banter the wrong way. It happens. If he is reading this we all hope he comes back.

To the aleged offender, apology is not needed as far as I am concerned. Very big of you to say so though and the forum is a better place for people like you doing so. I have a feeling there was something more than just that, otherwise it is an over reaction by Sir M. Whatever the issues are, we c an always work things out.

So, Jaime well done mate. Keep up the good work. Miggy, put the toys back and come back.

Honestly. People taking things the wrong way and leaving. Huh! At least I never do that.

My final comment on this thread is quite simply that I could have just as easily posted a quick witted remark intended for humour and this one was certainly made without any intended malice.

We're all adults here, so Andy please don't beat yourself up and keep posting.

Seriously tho....i didnt see the post that offended so carnt commet......posting on web sites is like text messages.....you might send a text as a joke.....but as recepient you carnt see the body language of the sender and it maybe possible to take it two ways...so can be an iffy thing to do......even with text messages im very careful unless i know them very well....on what i send if it 'could' be taken the wrong way  :y

Nope, no sacking, we definitely need TheBoy, even if only on the odd chance the v10 will be released...  ;)   ;D

Seriously, I think that mods should moderate but also take into account the user's wishes. TheBoy did what was right and what Sir Miggy wanted.

With so many people speaking their mind a conflict or two are unavoidable, be it through misunderstanding or otherwise, in fact we should be proud that we have gotten as far as we did with no more than the odd problem.

So well done TheBoy, well done all the admins and mods, well done us, and Sir Miggy the door is always open for you to come back.
