Title: Oil filler hiss
Post by: toller on 10 March 2007, 22:01:09
Finally had a go at changing the rocker cover gaskets today but ended up defeated due to starting a bit too late in the day and running out of light :(

Anyway, i've had to top the oil up again but have noticed that there seems to be quite a bit of pressure building up in the oil filler, so much so that i can hear it hissing and if i take the cap off when the engine has been running only a minute or so there is quite a big release of pressure.

I don't remeber it doing this before today so have i missed something when i put it all back together or is this just a sign of an extremely bunged up breather.

I drove the car home without any problems but i'm obviously now quite keen to get this problem sorted as the fuel bills are already bad enough without having to constantly feed it oil aswell.

Clean ALL the breathers, see the appropiate thread - you will need to find it!

DID YOU CLEAR OUT THE BREATHERS???????  Your hard work will be spoilt if you haven't, I'd suggest, NOT to drive the car until done!  That crankcase pressure has gotta go somewhere, it'll find the weakest point first, try running the car with no oil cap on and putting your hand on it to see what pressure is there, hopefully that'll prove if it's a pressure problem...

Keep us informed..

Those breathers are badly blocked and need cleaning as a matter of prority....
