As I mentioned in another thread, I have a brand new Pirelli P zero Rosso in the boot on a 17" alloy. (235/45/17), and I plan to buy it a mate to replace my worn fronts, cost around £120 for one tyre.
On a previous Elite, I had some Falken or something along that line, they were around £70 each, performed very well, and lasted for the 30,000 miles I drove in that car. (16" rims on a 96 Elite if I recall?)
So, before I splash out on a Pirelli, what tyres have you had on your Omega, and how did they perform?
-
Aargh - another tyre thread :-X
Avon ZV3 and after 3000 miles they are still looking like new ;D
-
Some people here (myself included) like Contis... seem to work well on the Omega.
-
Pirelli P7's on 16"s. Good for 20,000 front and rear with good grip & even wear - Kwik Fit £140 - Local fitter £80. :y
-
Michelin Pilots, damn expensive but they wear well for such a good gripping tyre. Almost as good as Eagle F1s, Bridgestone S-03s etc both of which are great tyres but too soft for a high miler. I've never had a good experience with Pirellis including P-Zero Asymmetrico so personally I wouldn't touch them but it really depends on your driving style and I guess the car too to an extent. I've tried Falken FK-451s which are good for the money, if not quite up there with the more expensive stuff.

Last time I tried Pilots (not on Omega), I found them too hard. Ironically, probably due to all the slipage, they wore quick as well...

I just had 2 tyres fitted to the rear of mine this afternoon.....couldnt tell you the make....£20 for the pair fitted :D
Should point out they wernt new......a week old....tyre place i use, ordered them in for someone....fitted them and then a week later he was back wanting michelins.....so they took em off....and saved them for me 8-)

Nice one TD! ;D
For the rest of us. I would honestly say Goodyear Eagle F1's or Continental premi-contacts (in that order).

I like my Dunlops. Marks_DTM reckons they are a bit noisy, but I'll live with that ;)

I used Michelin pilots which wore well but gave a harder ride. I now have Avon ZV3's which give a better ride, slightly less grip, alot cheaper but don't know about wear yet. I suspect they'll wear quicker.

Do you ever go on a road Tunnie or just take it for a run on a treadmill? :D
-
You have to remember, Tunnies is a 2.2 so the tyres will never get any real stress anyway! ;)

90% of my miles is motorway... I also never really cane it around round-abouts. I drive quick, my mum says too quick, when on the lanes i tend to give it some stick...
I drive no different than when I had my 2.0 Mondeo, that did 8k per set of fronts! If I keep driving the way I do, I should see 45/50k out of these tyres.

Agreed :y conti sport contacts for me ( one on each corner) ;)

-

Don't get me started on my mums driving.... i can't stand being sat in the car let alone being driven in it!
Yes she drives sllloooowwww.... i don't think she has ever over taken anything, she just sits back behind a slow driver and never attempts to over take.
When she drove the Senator I had to make her stop and let me drive to show what it can really do! ;) (100+ down the main B4525 that goes past Helmdon to the A43 ::))

4 new pirelli P6000s, had two on the front when I bought it so went with them again (Michelin Pilot Sports on the back, too expensive for me). Road noise is a lot less than it was with worn out P6000s on the fron and Pilot Sports on the back.

Hi Jimbob, where did you get your tyres from and were they expensive, my CDX needs new shoes and I was thinking of the Continental Premiums. I am only 15 miles from Chester.

Cheapest was kwik-fit!
get a quote (valid for 7 days) before midnight!!!!
last day of january sale!

Decided to go for a pair of 'Economy' treads in the end, just to match the nearly new pair on the back when I bought the car.
FULLRUN 235/45/ZR17 97W/XL
Pretty good so far, tramlining gone, fair in the wet, but a little noisy on the motorway with the window open, and only £50 each.. :o
Also means I'm not afraid to turn the TC off and spin em a bit.. ;D wouldn't do that with Pirellis... ;D ;D
-
Got Falken ZE512's on mine , have to say surprisingly good in the wet but get a sightly uneven road in the dry and the things all over the place any anyone else got similar experiences of these tyres?
Cheers Pete

They come in a fully equipped van c/w electronic balancer, air jacks etc, 25 mins including a cup of coffee all for £182 inc vat... Shall use them again... Country wide too 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

I did 30k on the original Michelins, and now have 20k on the Contis.
The Contis don't look like they will hold for another 10k, maybe 5k. But even though they will probably not last as long as the Micehlins did, they are great tyres and I will definitely look at getting Contis again.

I can't believe you guys put a 400+ quid set of tires on a car that costs 500-1500. I'm having enough trouble working up the courage to spend 300 on the suspension! And that's the cheapest it can be done. I only put 30 quid of petrol in at a time . . .
-
We can't afford £30 petrol, we use an Ethanol / Silicone mix in ours, Tesco (Every Little Helps!)

£30 of petrol, Id never leave the forecourt!
For the bit extra for good tyres, I would rather pay it than wish I'd payed it after ploughing into a bus stop! Ive had a car use me as brakes because of his own duff tyres in the wet, I bet the few extra quid on tyres would seem cheap now after insurance repurcussions.
If the tyres and breaks are good, doesn't matter what the rest of the car is like, they are the important bits to me.

I believe in good tires and brakes for safety, but good tires don't have to be over 100 quid each.

I doubt it. Remember the state of your Dad's, despite having plenty of tread (camber problem aside). Hard tyres crack after a while, which makes them ripe for blowouts etc...
