whats the best thing to seal an egr?? its blowing from the steel plate thats attached to it????

rtv sealant...used it to seal my EGR blanking plate

a quick search on google brings up this - which sounds plausible ...

RTV sealant Sealant hardens when exposed to air. RTV means "room temperature vulcanizing" and will harden or cure without a heat gun or other heat source.

.... sounds very much like the black "goo" used on cam cover gaskets ... but would it take the heat on the EGR, I presume that gets hotter than the cylinder head ... ??

it's also good for sealing the vacuum pipes where the rigid plastic pipe fits into the rubber elbows if they become loose.

I also used it on cam cover gaskets and a small bead around the idle valve thingy where it slides into the side of the plenum.

cheers lads ..i'll order some...quick question, does this stuff come apart easy enough afterwards if you have to ???? or does it set like locktight ???

its a silicone rubber like mastic....should peel off and maybe a little meths would soften it a bit

Is the leak coming from the metal gasket at the bottom of the EGR or where the metal arm bolts to the plenum behind the throttle cable mounting plate?

In either case the rtv will be suitable.....just apply a thin bead then leave it for 3 to 5 minutes before bolting together.

If you ever do cam cover gaskets and use RTV fit the covers after a few minutes DO NOT leave longer than 8 - 10 minutes as the stuff skins over and wont seal the cam cover gaskets...you want the sealant to get inbetween the gasket, the cam cover and cylinder head then skin over and bond

I'm pressuming you have a V6
