Hi everyone,
I have had my 3.0 Omega for 6 months now without and problems. However, last week, when driving at about 30 mph, the speedo went to 0 and the ABS & TC light came on. I also think that the power steering got a little heavier (but i may have imagined this).
Anyway, it all came back to life after about 5 mins.
The same thing happened again the following day whilst on the M6 going through some roadworks with LOADS of speed cameras.
Any ideas?
Paul.

Did the ABS or TC lights come on?
You can try cleaning sensors and connectors, but my experience suggest that it is going to be a 98 or later car, and that it is going to be an ABS ECU fault... :(

Shhhh! Say it very quietly in case my car hears you!! ;) Mine did the same but fixed itself before I managed to investigate - that was a couple of years back now.
Where the Autotrader before it 'fails' again? ;D

That should show up as a DTC in the ABS unit, right? Are miggys one of those cars that suffer from the duff German ABS units dumping 12V onto the K-line blocking the comms for TC?

It would appear that with this fault, ECU doesn't respond to diagnosis...

UPDATE
It has happened again a few times...when it does, for some reason, the LH indicator on the dash doesn't flash when the outside bulbs do. The Cruiise Control also stops working.
Strange.
Any more thoughts?

OK, check battery voltage at 3000 rpm....

Right then,
I haven't had time yet to try the above suggestions, but I have noticed something new.
When I start the car up and turn the wheel straight away, the steering is heavy, but then after a few seconds, I hear a click from a relay (it sounds like it is behind the clocks somewhere) and all is well again. Then, after driving for approx 5 mins, the ABS/TC lights come on and the steering gets heavy again.
Excuse my ignorance, but is there a seperate ECU for the ABS, or is it part of the main one?
Pauly.

Stupid question perhaps but... have you had new tyres fitted recently?
This happened to me on another Omega I had a couple of years back. I had the car in to Kwikripoff to have new tyres fitted on the back. Shortly afterwards TC and ABS would come on for a few minutes and then go off. This cycle would repeat itself regularly.
Turns out they had fitted the wrong profile of tyre to the back wheels and the front and back were running at different speeds therefore confusing the hell out of the ECU's.
Just a thought....

Hi Paul, not saying this is the cause but might be worth checking http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1174332608

ABS/TC is a seperate ECU to other ECUs in car. This generates the speed signals for rest of car, including the speed sensitive power steering. Alas, if yours is the MY98 onwards (VIN ends in Wxxxxxx or later), then these are known to be a bit unreliable.

I have had tyres recently, but they are all the same profile.

Well, It is a 98 model, but where do I find the VIN number? The plate on the front of the engine bay doesn't have anything beginning with W. There a number starting with VP though.

By drivers seat under plastic flap, or (easier) on the dash near passenger a post

The number begins with a W...is that significant? Is there a specific ABS module that I need to get? :-?

They all start W0L - its the end bit thats important...
-
Errrrrr...yeah....I knew that. I wat just testing. ::)
Anyway, it looks like the end bit starts with an X.
What now?
-
99 model then. Still has the less reliable ABS ECU though - 98 onwards suffer.
May be worth getting ABS fault codes read if you can cheaply, and also clean and regap ABS sensors.

BTT or BTTT means Back To Top or Back To The Top, and is a way of bumping an older thread back to top of list.
Personally, I'm not a fan, as it can give the impression you are unhappy with the responses, so some may consider it 'rude', as with any written conversation, it can be taken in a manner different to what was intended...
