Hi all,
Question for you if you'd be so kind :)
My CD had some power functions on the drivers seat. My new leather interior has lots more power functions e.g. memory. The connectors are all the same, however on the new seat theres also a bigger connector with about 12-16 pins which I have nothing to plug into. The seat won't do anything and I'm guessing its because of this, the fuse is ok and they were working in the car they came from.
What am I missing here?! Do I need to remove some wiring / add some / short some pins perhaps?
Any advice, dearly appreciated.. I believe JamesV6 is sending me a diagram which may help..

Its normaly little more than connecting the live feed to the already present one that used to drive the electric height adjuster

I'm going to have to post some photos as I just do not know what I'm doing here - I'm lost when it comes to wiring, my housemates the electrician and he's in Cornwall :( :(

Nope.. if you find the right wires, you only need about 4 in total.
There are 2 multi-plugs under the seat... one is for all the mirrors and sh!te.. you don't need that one.. just the one for the seat with the thicker wires coming out of it..

Heres some photos, as you can see on my old one it had the four wires coming from two connectors. I traced these, they go straight to the switch on the side of the seat.

Wires look the same, except on the old one it had a red and a brown in one of the pairs, the new one has a red and black - you should be able to see what I'm going on about... I just don't know what I am doing here, never been good with wiring and don't want to blow it up.. If someone could just let me know what I actually need to do, like move this wire here etc I might be able to do it myself..and get to work on Monday..

Ok....there should be one big connector with about 15 wires in it....ignore this one (its fro the mirrors)...
Of the ones left there is likely to be
A big red wire....connect this to the large red wire on the body loom which used to go to the seat height switch....
Possibly a big brown wire....unless the motors get 0v via the seat frame.....if there is this needs to be connected to the associated wire on the body loom again which conneted to the old seats...
That should leave
1) Brown/white - this is the diag feed and not essential
2) Smaller red wire....connect this to the large red wire
3) Small black wire - this is an ignition feed and not a permanent live one....this can probably be ignored....
4) Grey/white stripe - goes to the drivers door light switch....again, dont worry about it...
Thats working from scm so might be a few differences....bottom line is......Reds to red and Browns to brown...

Whoops.
I think i've oppsed it up now, might set fire to it in a minute.
I've attached the small red wire and the small brown wire from the 20 pin connector to the big red and big black wires I have, still does nothing. This is all seat side, I haven't made any changes to the loom in the car? Do I need to James? Not even sure after following Marks response that I should have cut these 2 wires out of the 20 pin connector, as it looks as if they're not neccesary.
Told you I didn't know what I'm doing, I'm going to don my spurs and fetch a blind fold.

Black block I should be concerned with:

1= BIG RED
2= BIG BLACK
3= SMALL RED
4= SMALL BROWN
5= SMALL BLACK
6= SMALL BROWN/WHITE
7= SMALL GREY/WHITE
8= EMPTY
On the car I've got BIG BROWN and BIG RED.
BIG RED already goes to BIG RED on Seat (Pin 1). BIG BROWN already goes to BIG BLACK on Seat (Pin 2)
I realise I'm becoming annoying now, but if you could lay the rest out like you would for a four year old that would be marvelous!

Brown should not go to black......black signifies an ignition feed, brown is a 0v connection.
With the reds connected......try touching the large black from the seats to a convenient piece of metal on the car and operating the motors...

So...connect the reds to red.....the blacks to black and the browns to the chassis 0V (any bare metal....)

I've done that now Mark, still nothing.
The brown from the car is now into the brown on the chair. There is another brown thats coming from the car, a smaller one, hooks straight into another brown in the chair, and goes to the buttons.
The red from the car is now into the two reds (one big and one small) in the chair.
The blacks (both on the chair) are now connected together.
I've found another small brown, going to try that too now...

Mark - Thanks v. much for your help on this today, much appreciated you got me going in the right direction thats for sure, I was completey lost there for a while..!
James - Many thanks also, wiring diagram (once I learnt how to read in another language) was in-valuable!

Funny you should say that Ian, I was wondering if I could wire the passenger seat so I could eject her when she starts telling me how to drive ;)
It is looking SO much better now, the restore continues...

I'm sure you could wire it up to do an instant recline and catapult her into the back ;D

They're both project ones I suppose.. I haven't even looked at the red one, other than to swap a door locking motor over - I want to attempt the gearbox transplant on Sunday, bit scared tho to be honest, I'll be the only one that even remotely knows what they doing - and that is very remote!

Just roll up your sleeves and rip it apart.. it will all become clear..
Make sure the Car is very secure, and rear wheels chocked.

I've got some car ramps so I'll whip the bumper off and get it up on them, with plent of wheel chocking going on.. ATF shower here we come :P

I found putting a bit of 4*2 in front of the ramps lifts the bumper away from the ramp,easier than taking bumper off.Just remember to place it back before rolling back down.
