Title: Air Bag Light
Post by: ClarCE on 02 April 2007, 09:08:11
Having fitted my new seats now, I have caused another problem!  The airbag light is on.

I have checked the connections, and everything is plugged in.  None of the seatbelt tensioners have fired, all is as it should be it would appear..

Is there anyway to get codes out of of it to find out which ones causing the issue?  Does it just need a reset - can I do that?

Much appreciated as always,

Chris.

You need a code reader capable of reading airbag ECU (cheapo tech2 can be hit or miss) to locate fault, and a code reader capable of resetting light at end (cheapo Tech2 seems to do this OK).

I suspect maybe a reset should be OK, as no doubt you had ignition on before seats correctly wired?

Yes, battery was off and on like a yoyo - didn't risk pluging in either the airbag or the seatbelt tensioner while it was though, just in case.. I'll get myself a cheapo tech2 off ebay then, if thats no good I could come give you some money in Brackley one day perhaps?  If your kit can reset all that stuff?

Yes, real Tech2 can read and reset (if original fault now cleared) all systems on car.

Whilst I'm sure its OK, I am not brave enough to sit in car when using cheapo Tech2 on airbags, so wise precaution to be outside ;).

My lack of confidence is due to buggy software, not any mishaps...

I think TD has a cheapo - and not far.  Maybe if you bung him some beer vouchers, he can undercut my prices (I have to recoup lots of money spent on my Tech2), and is closer to you?

 .......

Funnily enough I was also a bit aprehensive when I was diagnosing & resetting the seat belt pre-tensioner using the cheapo Tech II in my Astra diseasal!  :o
I was brave though and just sat back in the seat!!  ;D

Ah, just twigged... ...is this the leather from a 96 car? if so, it won't have side airbags.  Did you car previously have side airbags?

Heres the thing, yes it is from Jims car, but it does have the airbags in the seats, or at least the plastic covers with 'airbag' written on them.. and the wiring was there too, so I plugged it all in...

Yes I do....Newbury about 30mins up the road....if its just a reset you need or a code read (tho not sure how succesful it will be) just shout, no beer tokens needed  :y

I've got a cheapo techII lead and I'm not far from Newbury. In fact, I do pass through Newbury quite often. If you've got a suitable laptop and fancy a play with one you'd be welcome to borrow it. I haven't got a suitable laptop and haven't got round to playing with it yet.  ;)

If you just want the light turned off, though, TD's offer sounds better.  :y

Talking of which, is it cured? Or are you still regularly resetting?

Since I cleaned the contacts behind the drivers kick panel, it came on once after about 2 weeks, hasn't come on since (about a month now).

Having said that, it'll probably come on tomorrow now :(
