Hi There, new to the site, looks excellent, keep up the good work!!
I have got an R reg 2.5 V6 Elite (I will post some photos when i get chance), but what I want to ask is this.
I have got climate control (correct me if ive got that wrong, but that is different to aircon?) but when the setting is right down on low, the cold air isn't very cold. I would appreciate it if someone could let me know what I'm doing wrong

Is the ECO light on - that will disable A/C compressor. If ECO is off, but still not cold, you have an issue with A/C (most likely low gas pressure due to leak somewhere).
Welcome to the site :)

Sounds like you could do with a re-gas.
Climate sets the cabin temp, air-con blasts out cold air.
Oh & welcome :)

Cool, thanks guys. If i do need a re-gas, how much should I be looking at paying?

Depends where you are in country. I would say £50ish, more in or around London. Ensure they put dye in it so if it is leaking, you can find out where.

Notice Kwikfit by me are advertising Aircon Recharge, or No charge - £45
Anyone tried em?
I paid £75 last year in the old car

Cost me £50 last year

I'm starting to realise mine isn't wonderful now we're getting slightly warmer weather. It certainly cools, aux fans run and compressor clutch pulls in but it doesn't give the blast of cold air that some systems do. It's a few degrees below ambient but pretty hopeless.
I checked the gas pressure using an air con pressure gauge of the type Halfords sell and it fell in the centre of the "charged" range so I guess it hasn't sprung a leak. What now? Knackered compressor? :(
Thinking about it, I have a warranty. Would still like to know what I'm up against in case I get the run around!

Sounds to me that you might require the system regassing..costs about £50-£60 down hear in kent....check out...www.aircondirect.co.uk.......he has some really usefull info and has listings for reputable air con engineers around country.....my advise would be avoid..kwik-fit for air con....also totally agree get a dye put in so any further problems such as leaks can be traced...a good air con man would do this as normall...beware air con /climate control repairs can be costly

sorry ...wrong web addy...www.ac4cars.co.uk.......getting old and can read my writtig too well !!!good luck with it

As far as I'm aware the gas gets "used" over time, it doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem.
I think manufacturers recommend getting it re-gassed about every 3 years or so?....

Ahh, OK. It's 4 years old so probably ready for one then. I assumed it was like the air in a tyre! Fine, as long as the pressure's OK ::)

I wouldn't just go for a top-up, I'd get it vaccuumed, re-gassed & pressure tested.....

I got mine done for £30 in Poole as there were 3 of us in the office needing it done, he came to us as well.
One thing I don't get about the system in my car, you have climate control which say could be set to 22º. If you then take eco mode off (Put aircon on) it will get colder so does the 22º setting then not mean anything? Hope you all know what I'm talking about....

Because its designed to run with ECO off... ...that gives most accurate temp.

The ECO button simply turns off the aircon compressor to save a little bit of fuel when you dont require cooling, this means that the climate control only has heating available to it which is fine in winter although ou do lose some of the finer control over temperature as the system would normally blend a bit of hot air from the heater with a bit of cooled air to achieve the correct temperature.
If you have 22 set and the air flow goes cold when you turn off ECO then the cabin temperature must have been above 22 to start with, this is quite likely with only a little bit of sunshine on the car.
Climate also tries to compensate for 'solar gain' so if you are sat in a pleasant 20C but the sun is shining, then you feel warmer, the climate detects the suns heating with the little bump on the dash and sends slightly cooler air out of the high level vents to compensate.

£55 is the cheapest I can find around here & I know the guy ::)

I have noticed this a lot, especially last year when it was really hot.....
i have mine set to 22c, when it was sunny it was blowing cold air, in the winter it heats the car to the temp, an excellent idea
if you take too long parking in a multi story and the air con is on , you will hear the flaps move after a while and the heat start to pump out the floor vents.
