That's an air injection pipe, the EGR pipe and valve is up above the exhaust and goes into the side of the plenum.

You have exhaust from one side going round to the other side due to a blockage, probably a blocked cat. The rubber is only supposed to take air that is being injected, not hot exhaust gasses.

Blocked exhaust or cat.......drop the cats off and check them by blowing through them....

....then repeat the test on the centre sections (with the cat off you can blow throguh them whilst on the car).......

One of the four is blocked and hence why the rubber coupler failed....start on the drivers side first......

Pretty much nothing else can cause this problem......

Cats are generaly very reliable unless the engine is over fueling or they have impact damage......are you running any other mods?

It is definatly the driverside cat that is blocked ! left it ticking over for ten minutes 2day on the ramps got so i could see if there was a noticable difference in temps in the 2 cats and there was the exhaust pipe coming out of the passenger side was too hot to touch were the driver side is stone cold its booked in wednesday to be decated something i should have done when i had the ss exhaust 5 months ago it is standard apart from a few minor mods though i have uprated panel filter and modded airbox and intake the ss exhaust and has been running fine the cat seems to look fine but it has got a dent so who knows hope the decats do the trick

Don't do it

You'll never pass an emissions test without Cats....

problem is now cured !! had both cats removed today and what a difference in performance it has made! yes i do have the fact that to pass an mot the cats will need replaceing but thats no problem to bolt up 2 new cats come mot time the only downfall i can fins is the extra noise but it doesnt half sound good so i can easily put up with it its no louder than standard under normal driving conditions it will be intresting to find out if the power gains are infact gains but i have new suspension to fit nxt month and then it can go on the rollers to find out !!
