Title: MOT - Computer says No!
Post by: JONNYWAKEY on 04 April 2007, 19:33:28
Guys, had my meega in for MOT today - Failed but nothing too drastic.

What concerns me is that in Sept last year, I had both front track rod ends replaced, these have failed on the MOT.

Also the N/S Steering pivot (Idle) arm has excessive play in it ( does anyone know if new bushes are available? & Part No if they are?)

Also N/S rear coil spring snapped, are these a reasonable price to replace and easy to do ?

Would appreciate the advice.

Cheers

Jonny

rear springs are reasonably easy;  should be about £60 a pair from a factor.  There is a how to on here but as long as you've got a decent trolley jack and a couple of axle stands you'll be able to do it

Not sure about your other probs, sorry

Was it same track rod ends that failed?

Idler comes as one unit.  Replace springs in pairs.

All are fairly easy jobs :)

yes it was the same track rod ends that failed, they are AC Delco parts so they have a 12 month warranty, luckily my father in law owns the garage that fitted them so thats not a prob!

Will ask them to replace the idle arm while they have the N/S track rod off!

Have got axle stands and trolley jack, will look on "How to" and have a go.

You chaps are worth your weight in Gold.

Many thanks yet again!

Jonny.

BTW if Taxi reads this - car is still code and EML free thanks to Gendan Engine check s/ware on my laptop! Vauxhall garage didnt have a clue on how to clear EML.

For rear springs go to Sutton auto factors, they have places in Long Eaton, Mapperly, Sutton in Ashfield and Bulwell.....they do KYB who are an OEM supplier.

If you get stuck, I can swap the springs for you, its only an hour or so's job....

Depending on the outcome of Project Elite's MOT, I might be talking nicely to you  ::)  ;D

Why, you need rear springs replaced?  Drop it round if you do. Nice and easy :)

I have seen the master at work... well masters i should say.... DTM, Matchless.... made short work of TB's & my Senny rear springs!

Need a decent trolley jack though, not a wimpy one like mine... need a man's jack  ;)

Let us know when you intend doing it, i can come around and help  :y
