Got an oil leak over the exhuast (causing lots of smoke on long journeys) coming from deep down where i cant see easily. took it to a local garage who ive used many times before and do trust his judgement.
I realise the head gasket can go in many ways but never heard of it going buy leaking out side of the engine or could it be any thing else in this area, its on the right side as you look at the engine below the dip stick and oil filler. Its not spillage from filling as its been going on for to long. done about 2000 miles on it so far.
Its a face lift 2000 omega 2.5 v6
any ideas welcome and sugestions of what else to change whilst im at it, if the head has to come off.
Cheers

Its the rocker gasket.
Common failure, esp if breathers are blocked. Clear breathers, and replace the gaskets with genuine GM ones...
-
i just had that changed on the last service about 2 weeks before the leak started??
-
would the breathers make her run rough?
As she runs with out any drama?
-
Its still possible if genuine gaskets were not used or the rocker covers were over tightened and blocked breathers may have been the reason the first gasket let go.

how easy is the job? Im not to bad with the spanners
How much am i looking at for a rocker gasket?

Heres my stance on oil leaks form headgaskets.....it might make you question your local guarge in the future so.....
Consider the engine setup around this area....there is a lot of water ways, fully surrounding the cylinder linings and also some of the head sections......the water system is genarally pressurised so it either leaks out of the headgasket and down the block (VERY rare and only following catastrophic failure on this power plant.....the engine certainly wont be running well under these conditions as the compression seals will have failed as the gasket supporting them will no longer be there!) or the material around the compression seals fails, the seals are no longer supported and blow out and away from the cylinders, water can now get sucked into the cylinders.....this is the standard failure and is normaly caused by poor maintenance (not changing and maintaining the correct antifreeze mix).
On the oil side there is one very small drilling which carries high pressure oil to the galleries in the head....its will away from the edge of the block/head and has an additional seal around it....the oil return passages are genarally pretty small and at atmospheric pressure....these are very unliely to leak and are again, away from the edge of the block...
So given the above......the chances of a failed headgasket causing an oil leak are so close to zero.......

Changed the gaskets today,
are there any pic's of the breather clean as the guide is very good but need a few pointers in the right direction. Taking the black eco tech box to a parafin bath tomorrow to get really clean, will obviously get ride of all the cleaner before putting back on engine.
Is there any other place which needs particullar attention as would like to get sorted by tomorrow.
