Hello. Just joined the forum and finding it very helpful. Only had an Omega 2 Weeks but enjoying it. Have a 2.5 V6. Just having a few problems. After about 15 mins i loose about half a litre of coolant from the back of the engine. Could this be the HBV. If it is, i have had lots of different stories about changing it. Has anybody got any advise.
Also when you start up and drive there is a whirring noise. When you take your foot off the throttle it stops.
There also seems to be brown blobs in the water. Does it just need a coolant flush or is it something more sinister.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum :)

Welcome.
Sounds like HBV.
Flush the coolant a couple of times, then keep eye on coolant - you may have the start of an oil cooler failure (fix before get too bad). It may be the aftermath of oil cooler failure already sorted.

Thanks. If it is the hbv where does the water actually come from. One of the pipes or the plastic valve itself. :-/. Have took the wipers off and scuttle and can access hbv but want to make sure it is that before i start to change it.

Mine had traces of blue coolant from the valve itself.

Mine had water marks on the valve itself, but it could be leaking and showing no signs at all :-/

Hi Mark
As a newbie myself of just 3 days I can hopefully help, as my task on Saturday was to change the HBV. I couldn't actually tell where on the valve it was leaking, so I did a reverse diagnosis and put a small mirror inder the pipes and valve and convinced myself that the pipes were intact so therefore it had to be the valve. later it became apparant that this is a common fault (Leaky HBV).
You will also find plenty of experience of being able to change it without taking the intake plenum off, and I can confirm it, although do agree with one member who said you do need a box of plasters and a swear box. What I found invaluable was a £7 pair of heater hose clip pliers from halfords.
Oh - and it may help if you unclip the valve to get a better look, it sits on a vertical metal strip (a bit like an old bicycle light fitted on the front of a bike). If you lift it up, off the metal strip, you can then pull it a bit further over to the drivers side for inspection & removal
Good luck
Pat
