After changing the Alternator on the Elite, I've got a suspicious orange light on my dash :(
Codes flashed, were:
16 = Knock sensor 1, no change in voltage (I hope I've not damaged the cable, as it's in the alternator area, it looks OK)
144 = No immobiliser signal recived Faulty unit or break in wiring (could be an old code)
135 = 'Check engine' lamp (fault code lamp) Low voltage (well it lights up!!)
31 = Crank sensor no signal - I believe normal, with engine off?
Any suggestions? Thankfully I have a spare knock sensor if it comes to it...

Yes 31 is correct with engine off......tho why dont you have a 19 as you found it unplugged? :-/
Unless 31 deletes 19.....tho in a certain program it implies that you can have both error codes at the same time.. :-/ .....Answer from TB?

Bring it over, and we'll clear all the codes, and see what reoccurrs...

Good plan, in daylight tomorrow I will check all connections, and see what happens
I can't bring it over until I get an MOT, tax, and insurance though ;D ::)
TD, different car, you're thinking of the 2.0.. i'm talking about the project Elite..

Although - can the Tech2 talk to an N reg engine ECU?

Ahhh, good point. Probably, as its standard Motronic 2.8.1 in V6. I'm sure I read Tunnie's heap Project B, which I think was an M

True... I'm guessing my N reg 2.0 is Simtec then, hence why you couldn't read that one?

Tech2 officially does 97 on. I presume the early 2.0l have different ECU to later 2.0l, hence why it couldn't. I was surprised that it couldn't though.
Tunnie will remember if I could read his Elite Motronic, as his memory is far better than mine...

Yes your Tech2 can communicate with a moving garden shed err M Reg Elite Estates ::)
I seam to remember the basics could be read, and fault codes read/reset. You even re-programmed the MID, but some systems could not be accessed.

But could it talk to the engine ECU?

It read the engine fault codes i think... it had millions stored... not sure :-/
