Title: Driver's door lock mechanism
Post by: Osaze on 12 April 2007, 21:07:31
One day I got in my Omega, went to close the door and BANG, it
wouldn't close and it was like it was hitting on something. Thought it
might be the seatbelt, but alas it was the lock thingy on the door
itself. I swung the catch round to look like a working one on another
door, and it closes. I just have to make sure it's in this sort of
position before closing the door. Just took it to a Vx dealer to look
at, says it needs a new locking mechanism, a sealed unit, for £86.
Is there a better (i.e. cheaper) way of sorting this?
Looking in the door itself, it seems like a spring loaded pin is not
going into the hole it should - would sorting that out be enough?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for that. I think my problem is more localised as I have no trouble opening or locking.

That black piece of metal is pacman shaped, and so if it can rotate anti-clockwise when viewed face on, it will not close.
Imagine a pacman trying to eat the door hook that's in the door frame on the chassis... it can only do it in this sort of orientation:

Sorry for the analogy...

I think the first thing to try would be to spray a little silicone or PTFE lubricant into the mechanism and see if it frees off.

And if it is knackered, find someone here breaking a car, it will be cheaper ;)

£86!?!?  :o

Tell them to get stuffed!

Send a PM to "ClarCE" he has just started breaking an Omega.... he should be able to provide you with a working lock a lot cheaper than Vauxhall!

Use my guide as a referece to replace it, its not that difficult. Just a bit fiddly  :y
