Went to the local Masterfit at Vaux agent today to ask about the price for a back box fitted, keeping a straight face he quoted £210! Are they gold plated, and £80 per hour labour is ridiculous, although I know there are Vaux agents out there that charge more than that, it is nearly half a weeks wages to me to pay one hours labour. Are they easy to do with just axle stands , if I can get one trade I might have a go myself. Anyone have the part number for the 1999 2.5 V6 back box?

Saloon - 93181187 - £120 retail, £75 TC, both ex VAT. You will likely need new bolts as well, not sure if these have a gasket...

Can bee done DIY if you are able to cope with the odd rusty/seized bolt, someone here will confirm the P/N (I am not on my own computer at the moment...), but the Vx back boxes are pricey, and patern ones are not generally recommended. See if someone in you area has Trade Club, the back boxes are much cheaper on TC.
*** EDIT:
TB, do you always have to post first? >:(
don't you have any servers to install or something? ;D

It is easy to do, I used car ramps that I got from halfords, reversed it up - loads of space..
The clamps come off (2 of them) pretty easily, good to use PlusGas or something on them first to pentrate the rust. It is more difficult to replace when you're not also doing the centre pipes at the same time, but by no means impossible - I reckon you should be ok.
If you're buying the exhaust from a dealer, its should be a genuine GM one - if you can borrow a trade club card from someone up near you it will have a good discount, it will cost under the £100 mark easily.. If you can't borrow one, join the autobahnstormers for £20 it'll take a week for them to send you your card, then you can get trade club prices at dealer forever. I.E. GM Semi-Synthentic is £30 ish for 20 litres, rather than the £90 they would have charged (its buy 3 get 1 free at the moment..)
Good luck with whatever you decide to do, you don't need a dealer anymore to work on your omega with this forum :D

Unfortunately the only local person I know with a trade card is GeoffD, and I think he is still abroad at the moment.

Worth getting your own - the discount on the exhaust will easily pay for it ;)

Dont know if you want to do a cheap fix on this but I have a 2.5 back box, genuine GM - details in the for sale section. Its old and I dont want much for it, you can have it for the cost of the postage and a couple of pints if you want. Can email you a pic so you can see what you are getting. If you havent got access to a tool set then I can remove the centre pipe stubs.

Hi cdx25, can I put your offer on hold for a bit, a mate has told me he knows someone at Vauxhalls who might be willing to get me one, so I will see if anything comes of it.

No worries, its kicking around the back garden until I get round to chucking it out if nobody wants it. Might sling it out at the weekend if its no use to anyone.

If he's in the job I think you are insinuating, thats right the changeover is soon.
