Just want to check If I have been had.
I bought a Centre section exhaust for my 2000 2 litre facelift and was told by the guy on Ebay that this would fit my car
VAUXHALL Omega 2.0i Cat. 16v. Estate. X20XEV Engine. 04/1994-10/1999
Have i been had or is the part incorrectly made as it will not fit.
No point sending it back as it was not expensive and it would cost as much for postage.
It was just a cheapo one to find out if its the centre box or the cat making the noise thats getting on my nervous, back box is VX and not old at all so its not that

That's pre facelift.
There's a conspiracy amongst exhaust designers/manufacturers that the slightest excuse and they will make a different part, so I would not be surprised if they were different. >:(
If you were specific with him in writing that your car was facelift /2000, I would challenge him. Ebay vendors (the genuine ones) are pretty concerned about their feedback, so make it his issue and see what he suggests.
Cheers
Ian

The centre pipes never changed at any point in the design life....its the back boxes that did......so it 'should' fit

Any difference on estate / saloon?

Yes...

How much did it cost BTW?

In my experience it is not uncommon for new exhausts to need some modifications or realignment – even if they are designated correctly for the make model and year. This is especially so with pattern parts, but sometimes happens with original ones as well – I suppose that the manufacturers assume these will be fitted by a garage in which case a minor twick would not be a problem.
A Ripspeed free-flow manifold I purchased some years ago had its tail section positioned at 30 degrees to the bit it was supposed to connect to – I had to cut-off the relevant section from an old pipe and bend it to create a new joint, and a brand new Abarth back-box needed its mounts modified to clear the car’s chassis…
As for comeback, in a theory a reseller is 100% liable, but in practice if you bought off eBay and the seller sold it in good faith, there is little point in perusing this. If there are any marking on the unit, you could try and look it up on the Internet to see if it is indeed the correct item for your car as confirmed by the seller, and if it turns-out to be the wrong P/N than you could say it was wrongly described.
Other than that – can it actually be fitted with some professional help, or is it totally wrong?

Got an ebay item number for it....
-
Yes...
If you look at craigs item description - it has the word 'estate' in it.. I'm pretty sure he has a Saloon, but I might be talking rubbish..

If it's only the angle then you should be able to cut-off the joint from the old pipe (assuming it isn't too rusty) and solder it instead of the wrongly-angled unit on the new pipe - however you will need to find someone to do this on the cheap or it will off-set any savings made on the eBay purchase... If you are in Watford, why not talk to Tony? I think they do exhausts at STS Watford and if you mention OOF I am sure he could have a work for you with the guys...
