Hi,
Started a new thread as its a seperate question.
Is it possible to tune the engine up , (high performance cams, pistons, rods etc) and totally rip out the whole petrol system and just have it as an LPG?
Any way to get back the power that i will lose by having the LPG?
And would i be eligible for cheap road tax as its just LPG and not an lpg conversion
Matt :)

I'm not an expert on LPG, but I doubt this is possible
You need to start on petrol and get the coolant hot, so the evaporator / vapourisor can work in order to run effectively on LPG....

Too much work - what do you do about the injectors and ECU?

Yep as posts above say... you need petrol system to start on so as to warm up the coolant. Once upon a time I did force my car to start on LPG as i ran out of petrol. It only just started and would hardly rev at all. After lightly revving the engine for a few mins i managed to get the temperature high enough to evaporate the LPG. Not only that you need another ecu to monitor the runnning of the car too!
As for road tax - as far as i'm aware you can only ask the DVLA to re-calculate your tax if the car was manufactured after the year 2000. I did ask if i could change the tax on my 2.0 W plate (reg april 2000) and they said i couldn't as it wasn't new enough. I will try my luck again when i convert my 52 plate MV6.

course you can do it there are many engines in Aussie that run just lpg but to get the full benefitaa and performance you will need a compression ratio of about 12.1 so where you going to find piston that will do that? and headgaskets that will take it? then of course the chocolate oil cooler will melt cos the engine temps will be to high!!

I don't know much about LPG, but apart from all that has been mentioned already, my understanding is that the engine need to be run on petrol every now and them to provide upper cylinder lubrication, and if you run it on LPG only you might have excessive wear on the valves / guides / stems...?

Unfortunately you wont be lucky there either.....unless you get it converted by a government approved lpga installer.....non government approved or diy and it will still be classed as a petrol!

i asked the same ? in northampton dvla for my range rover and they said i could only get reduced tax if i could prove that there was no petrol at all told me i would have to remove tank and all pipes was thinking about it as the rangy can start on lpg easy

OK for warm climates with simpler electronics.
I don not feel it is worth the hassle doing this with an Omega, also not many 24hour LPG places yet.
For a simpler car, a mixer system replacing carbs ect would work quite well but for EFI you have other things to worry about, the ECU will notice things missing.
Dual fuel is a lot easier with EFI cars
