Title: 'Oil Lack' message
Post by: rob.b.666 on 05 May 2007, 18:32:20
Was trundling down the motorway today, when the 'oil lack' message came up on the display. Stayed on for about a minute or so, then went of and hasn't come on since (done approx 50 miles).

Checked oil a few minutes after message came up and oil was well above minimum (car had only been stopped for less than a minute), so am wondering if this was a rogue fault ?

Any ideas ? :-?

mine does it as well if the oil level goes down below the full mark on the dipstick. Some say to carry out an oil and filter change and also flush the system.

If the dipstick level is much below a 3rd, you will get oil lack.  Just top up a bit, or better still, change it anyway ;)

Cheers.

Will chuck half-a-litre in, for now. Due oil/filter in 1000miles or so.

I get the oil lack message on mine regularly, despite it getting 4k changes and always on the upper mark.  Always seems to happen on motorway speeds on a run, no other time.

I know I shouldn't, but I rely on the knowledge that its changed regularly, always upto the max mark before a journey, and that the oil pressure switch and lamp both work!!

Actually I did get it once on my old (97) Omega while cruising on the M2...

I seem to remember something about a Tech2 software update that resolves this? must check on TIS, might have gotten it wrong...

Anyway if it is down to a faulty sensor then changing the sensor is a non-starter, it's inside the oil pan so engine-out/sump-off job, not really worth it...
