Post by: chris-b on 02 May 2007, 22:53:53
Hi I have  a set of Irmscher sportstar 18" alloys 8" on front with 235/40/18 and 9" on rear with 265/35/18, i have bougnt (by mistake!) 275/35/18 and am worried that they wont fit on the rim? anyone got any info on the max tyre i can have on the 9"rims??

Have a look here (http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html).
About 2/3rds of the way down the page there's a tyre/rim width calculator.

I made it 9" is the smallest size for a 275 tyre.

you can put them on But in all honesty really could do with 255's or 265's :-[

yes they will fit but thats a big tyre for a little rim........... My Bmw has 9in fronts and 10in rears ... i run 255/35/19 fronts on 9in and 275/30/19 rears on 10in... giving a flat tyre wall and no flexing.

oh yeah christ its totally safe!!!!!!!!!!!!! dont let me scare you mate...

all depends on how you drive it............ But no chance of it popping off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

even smaller tyres can pop off...........talking of which my 225/45/17's on my 8.5in wheels popped 1 off on the track day sat!!!!!!!

the 275 will be fine just check once fitted that the sidewall is as near straight as possible.not like some of these euro style vw that stretch the tyre width to meet the wheel. i dont think you will have any problem though. put up some pics when they are on the motor
