Title: Omega 2.2 petrol auto, 2002 E. Management light
Post by: vincedomingo on 05 May 2007, 16:47:20
Hi all. Problems still with 2.2 Auto
I have EML ON all the time and the car will not rev it sits around 1200rpm, no throttle response at all.
Taking advice from here I have 1) cleaned breather pipe ( no problems) 2) taken off and cleaned the throttle body. It was pretty dirty and the small hole was blocked, cleaned it up and refitted. It now ticks over better but the eml means it goes nowhere ( THe eml is the orange one with a spanner through the roof)

desperate for advice! I 'd rther not start buying things just to try so has anyone any ideas?

Are you near me (Oxon/Bucks/Northants border)?

I'm on the Oxon/Warwickshire border - a small town called chipping norton
I'm starting to suspect the Crankshaft sensor - as they seem unreliable and can cause the EML to come on.
I'm not clear what engine I have other than a 2.2 16V what is that in engine naming terms, 2002 model (52 plate) if  I replace the sensor from ebay I want the right one.......
The throttle body is also a concern - as the omega is drive by wire I can't actually tell if its able to open.... it could be as basic as the throtle potentiometer but I suspect these rarely fail

helpppppp!

Vince, I also have a 2.2 16v Omega (2001) hazarding a guess i would say that the engine type is a Z22XE.

Camshaft and Crankshaft sensors are a common failure on the 2.2, I have had endless problems with mine!

I would take 'The Boy's' advice and let him Tech II it for you, he can then see the live data being sent from the throttle pot and also read codes which are turning on the MIL (EML) and hopefully clear them.

Good luck and don't panic just yet, these cam sensors have a lot to answer for!

Keep the forum informed of your progress!.

Regards

Jonny

Dont think it will be the cam or crank sensor.....on a 2.2 you can unplug them and a 2.2 will still start (struggle tho) and rev (tho limited to 4.5k)

If it wont rev at all and ive never heard of this problem before.....then im guessing it has to be the throttle pot or throttle body assembly or ecu  :o or broken wire/loose connection.

You really need the to get the ecu codes read to see what its complaining of to give you an idea where to look.

I agree with TD, these 2.2 will start and run with either a failed cam or crank sensor (probably not both though!).

I'm in Brackley - will it make it that far?

Thanks for the advice, also part of the problem is thats its erratic , some days its fine ( like the day I took it to a garage!).
When its in the 'run 1200rpm only' it wont make it anywhwere its undrivable, there is absolutly zero throttle response it like the throttle was doing nothing - a tricky problem to diagnose with drive by wire. I'll get teh test meter out tomorow and chaech that there is a control voltage coming out of the throttle pot. I can get the A out they will read the ECU for me I'm sure.

I've a short list now : throttle body - failed servo, crankshaft sensor ( known to fail) camshaft sensor( Known to fail) and I suppose it could even be the throttle pot or leads themselves. I'll get reading the manual I got off ebay

I do suspect the throttle servo, and have seen it before on another dbw unit.  Trouble is, hugely expensive, so you'd want to prove it first...
