Title: what is a special??is there one...?
Post by: mv6copcar on 11 May 2007, 08:21:19
Just been to the garage to get a punture fixed and the fitter told me i have a MV6 'special'.
i know its a MV6 ex copcar, but never heard of that before-he seemed to know what he was talking about as he used to work on the police omegas.
he also told me that my engine isn't a X30XE, its an X30EF. never heard of that engine no,  HAS ANYONE ELSE???
if so whats different about my engine?
or was i being taken for a ride? :-?

thanks

He clearly does not know that much then......

It is a standard X30XE with a possible slight remap by Gm Special Vehicles......who build the Plod cars and hence why its possibly considered a special.

They add the uprated springs etc and do the small tweaks requried befre the car is shipped to the local force for fitting out.

MV6 Special is a common term from what I have read

i think the problem is there are to many NON-omega owners out there that think the cop car omega's are modified  :-? as in performance  wise....... as we all know they are clearly not......

if they are infact faster than a normal MV6 its purly down to the fact i would imagine the police MV6's weigh less than a normal sport seated leather optioned MV6.. and thats it.... :-?

I WISH I WAS WRONG thOUGH :'(

nothing special, just springs and shock from PI. want coil overs but couldn't pay that much!
got 16'' wheels on her, lowered 40mm all round and fitted new anti-roll bars with uprated bushes.
handles so much better and nakes going round a roundabout much easier  ;)
on a privite estate,in an old disused car park or course  :o

where do you take your mega, ps-looks so sweet in the pics mate

sounds cool..... have you replaced whole anti roll bar with a standard item or uprated item.. and as for bush's on the anti roll bar please tell me where you got them from i cant find any sort of uprated bush for an omega... wthought i was going to have to see what cars share bush's with an omega.. :'(

and that would take ages...

as for down pipes....... well they look the same to standard ones.. as i have 2 sets of each...... :-?

any idea what was differnt.

I drove an ex-cop MV6 and it definitely sounded more meaty, like an induction noise. My standard MV6 definitely doesn't have it.

The ex-cop one had at least one owner since being decommissioned though so maybe it had some boy-racer mods ::)

PS love that avatar :y

:-/If buying an ex plod car how do you insure it as a civvy vehicle should you declare the mods & tweaks you & others have mentioned? Can you get away with saying it's a police spec MV6 or civilian MV6? If you insured it as civilian would you be covered if you pranged & claimed? :o

Good question, never really thought about it!  but come on people, how many of us tell our insurers about mods like alloys, springs, different bumpers/spoilers? :o

but a good point though!

I do, it's not worth the risk to not declare as they'll use any excuse to void a claim should you need to make one and that's an ideal opportunity to do so. My Omega is pretty much standard other than the dual-fuel (declared of course) but my BMW has a few minor mods and they are all listed on my policy. Only adds an extra £50 or so, no point paying hundreds for insurance that may turn out to be worthless if you claim.

end of day as long as you insure car as Private car which it is and basically as it says on log book... your covered!!!!!! as mentioned before i used to be motor underwriter for AXA/guardian insurance....... if they was any discrepancy's at all ..... we simply went by log book...... which as long as its standard / any mods declared fully covered!!!!!!!

insrance company's have lists of cars and no matter if its ex-police, goverment liason etc etc if its an elite or and mv6... thats what it is!! :y
