Does anyone know how to check if it's working, it's ex-devon&cornwall plod. Any info on 3.2 special specs also welcome. I have TC button on dash can't see any warning lights other than TC, but linkages and sensors present on suspension.
Thanks Carl [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

do you mean traction control?
Omega's were never fitted with ESP/C
-
Easy, get it unstable in a corner...the TC light will flash and it will brake one (or more of the wheels).
To be honest, if it wasn't working the TC/ABS lights would be lit on the dash (I assume they light and then go off when the ignition is turned on.).
Plod spec is basically a base model car with big engine and uprated suspension....

Yes they were Tunnie....ever since the introduction of the 4 way ABS module.....on the V6's

I have never felt mine brake a wheel - how can I tell if it is there?

nailing it out of a junction whilst turning usually does the trick ... TC cuts in and slows you down, not always what you want in that scenario ::)

Especially when it's wet :o

Yep i floored it today expecting to see 2 blades of fire behind me, although i ended up jerking back and fort like a learner! >:(
I guess i'll leave the TC off from now on then... :y

Feels more like cutting power

Was ESP still an option though, or was it on all models with 4-way ABS?
According to my Owner's manual instead of the TC light there is a light with what looks like a skidding car inside a triangle where ESP is fitted. This light flashes when it comes into operation, apparently. Sounds like a job for Tesco's car park in the early hours!

Not sure the post 98 ABS (4 channel) was ESP, more just enhanced TC in that it braked the spinning wheel (then cuts power if it still can't control the wheelspin)...

I stand corrected (never saw an ESP button so assumed it never got it)
I always thought ESP was above TC. :-/
I knew the later TC (post 98) was smarter, but still basically TC.
My understanding was:
TC: - Applys braking only to wheels (got smart post 98)
ESP: Applys braking but ALSO power, to the wheels where TC does not..... AFAIK the Omega TC cannot provide power to the wheel, it will just brake it?

I have seen repeated references to ESP on later Omegas, this is not the first time, so probably some 02-03 models had them...?

'ESP for All Six-Cylinder Omega Models
One of the biggest advantages of the Omega has always been the DSA (Dynamic Safety) chassis with its self-stabilizing geometry, which keeps the car under control even in tricky braking conditions. In November 2001, all Omega models with a six-cylinder engine will have ESP as standard, which can increase the safety performance of the DSA chassis further still, especially in critical situations. TC Plus traction control, operating via the brakes and engine, is integrated in the ESP and works both under deceleration and acceleration, also prevents the rear-drive wheels from spinning or locking.'

well to my knowledge, it's only TC as standard (on V6's). Early models would brake per axle, later models can brake each individual wheel - I think both types can cut the injectors too if wheelspin isn't stopped. However it's still a reactive system - like ABS. I'm thinking that TC only really cuts in when accelerating ... so if you take a corner too fast it isn't going to do anything about it!
ESP is a completely different kettle of fish - it employs yaw and roll sensors to work out how the car is moving, measure the rate of acceleration etc. and then actively brakes etc. to try and stop the car under or over steering if required. I've seen mention of it on miggys, possibly only in the mythical V8 variant though?

hmmm ... maybe on non-UK models?
the June 2003 owner's handbook PDF file says:
On vehicles with ESP*, control indicator (TC light) in the instrument panel is replaced with (ESP light) see next page
- so it would appear that it's an either/or - you have TC or ESP (which includes TC), therefore if you have a TC switch and lamp on the dash then you don't have ESP.
My 2002 (52 plate) 3.2 estate only has TC :'(

DSA - didn't that come in with the Carlton?

But is seems that the EPS went the same way as the 2.5TDI and the V8.... missed a turn in the corridor at Russelsheim and never made it into production...
