Why would you blank the EGR James? I have read that people do it just wondered why :y

No significant performance or economy gains but, sometimes the valve can stick, and this can eliminate this.

Remember all the EGR does is allow some exhaust gasses back into the combustion process, to help save the planet...

Ive been told that blanking the egr off makes the car do more mpg and run better.

Im going to do mine with a coke can

Last time I did mine...
2 x 5p's
Removed flex pipe (was leaking)
used the nut off it and bolted back on with the 5p's and a little exhaust putty...

That car's had one on before James. I didn't notice any difference in mileage/performance.

Seem to remember undoing the bolts with my '£1 shop star keys' :y ;D

Thats a little hopeful.....it definately WONT improve MPG, it should help throttle response if you floor it whilst cruising....(because you dont have the minimal lag associated with the EGR closing)

Hi,
in my case

half a liter / 100 km better fuel consumption was easily measurable..

Car goes really better ..

I think you'll find it will marginally worsen the mpg (in effect, the egr reduces engine cc when cruising).

Not sure about the performance, unless the egr is shot  :-/

This is true. Exhaust gases in the inlet allow the engine to run under light loads without being so far throttled back so the pumping losses associated with a large engine under light throttle reduce and they also promote more efficient and complete combustion.

Under full load the EGR system is disabled so blanking it will make no odds to performance unless the valve was bust in the first place.

If the valve is knackered, it will cause lumpy idle, so blanking will cure that

If I haven't got any in the garage, I can get some more made   ;)
