Post by: donna-marie on 21 May 2007, 10:55:09

If the fans are cooling it down then the stat must be opening ergo...the stat is ok.

Have a quick look in the engine bay ECU box (on the right) and check the two 20A fuses for the two front mounted fans....

Does the temperature climb rapidly when you are stationary and stay lower when cruising?

And Marks idea is cheaper and easier to do first.... ;)

Just for info, on the V6 you will need to take-off the intake plenum, intake manifold (with injector rail), and intake flange, in order to gain access to the thermostat housing. The thermostat itself is slightly more exepnsive than usual due to the fact that it comes with the housing. So while doable, it is time consuming and should only be done after other more likely/trivial causes have been ruled out as suggested above...

Other than that follow the advice from Mark DTM / Laidback66 / TheBoy and you can't go wrong  ;)

Ye the temp is around 95-97ish when crusing but as soon as stopped in traffic goes to RED then starts vapour up side of bonnet driver side. All levels of fluids are correct.

Looks like fans kick-in too late?

Faulty thermoswitch...? or blocked / airlocked rad preventing coolant from circulating to the thermoswitch area...?

I can vouch that the Forte Cooling System Flush is very impressive, far better than the Holts type stuff....

There are two types, a coolant flush and a bio de-greaser, you want the coolant flush for a standard coolant change....the bio-degreaser works well after oil cooler failure.

Gloucester - I work there, so would save the £5.50 postage

Just wonder if enough of us were interested, maybe we could negotiate a bulk buy for the forum...
